I've just received the feltmaking kit ordered yesterday: so quick! It's a Xmas present so I won't open the pretty package. It's 1 gift I won't have to wrap. Thanks!

About

Fibres & Felt

Since childhood I have been surrounded by creative activities and have continued to explore new techniques throughout my life. As a mature student I studied Art&Design at York College and City&Guilds at Scarborough. In 1996 I was introduced to felt making as a technique by Sheila Smith and discovered my great passion (feltmakers reading this will know exactly what I mean!), little did I know then that this would change my life. I now create individual pieces which I exhibit in galleries and exhibitions such as Woolfest, Fashion and Embroidery Show, Wonderwool, Fibre East, Yarndale, and Open Studios. My work is constantly changing and evolving as I experiment with techniques. I am passionate about feltmaking, always endeavouring to create well made felt work that will hopefully stand the test of time. I enjoy sharing my skills and encouraging others to experiment and develop their feltmaking. I have been leading workshops since 2005 which I deliver both locally and for groups such as Guilds and Societies at their venues. I taught regularly at ArtisOn, Joe Cornish Gallery, Hutton Buscel, IFA regions around the UK & Crafty Retreats in France. I have delivered sessions to groups of teachers and I have experience of delivering workshops within schools from Primary level to AS level, assisted by teachers.

Living close to the Coast and Moors of North Yorkshire I draw my inspiration from my natural surroundings. I have particular interest in formations created randomly along the coastline, often including found objects in my work. Weekly walks on the beach, photography and chance discoveries spark ideas and experimentation. I also have a love of Sea life not found on the Yorkshire coast such as Sea Slugs (Nudibranch), Cuttlefish and Corals. I am drawn to using fibres in their natural colours often highlighting my work with a hint of colour.
