About

I'm a creative person who found her outlet in creating totally new crochet hats!

My name is Kristin and I'm a native of Roanoke, Va. I went to college at UNC-Asheville where I earned a double degree and met my husband. I was diagnosed at a very young age with a problem with my fine motor skills. The doctor said crocheting can help develop your fine motor skills. So, nurse mom taught me immediately... or at least she tried she's a lefty! My motor skill deficit is now slight enough that unless I tell you, you'll never know I have it. :-)

Mom's lessons on crocheting ended with the chain and single stitches so I took it a step or two further. I learned many more stitches and different ways to put them together. However, I still can't seem to follow someone elses pattern all the way through! So, I have taken to making up my own patterns and creating totally new works. This means, when making something new I often take the whole thing apart to add a stitch here or there. Leaving the work uneven or in any way imperfect is not an option since I'm a perfectionist (to the extreme - it's very sad).

I've been crocheting well over 20 years now. I've sold to friends and family and given my scarves and hats as gifts. Finally, my cousin told me I needed to get on Etsy so here I am! Please take a look at my shop. Keep in mind I love making new and different things so if you have an idea for something new send me a message!

Greetings!
My name is Kristin and the name of my shop, Lady Baron, comes from my husband's nickname. Because of his last name he's always been called "The Baron." When we got married his friends decided that I needed to be called "The Baroness." I thought Baron's Lady would be a better reference for me, and though they didn't agree, it gave me the idea to call by business Lady Baron.

I design hats that I like! I've never liked following the patterns of other crocheters so I developed my own unique patterns. I like to add texture and clean edges to my works. That led me to my vertical ribbing pattern. Now virtually all my hats use this pattern in different forms.
