About

Exchanging Fire

I started knitting my first semester of college, when I saw a senior girl working on a project in front of crackling fire in an old college dorm. We were surrounded by co-eds happily clicking their needles, and there was a mystical, time-honored tradition of old about the whole thing that reminded me of the 1900s instead of the 21st century. I immediately wanted to learn to knit as well, and after letting me play with her project for a bit, the senior girl instructed me to go out, buy my own materials, and she’d teach me how. My first scarf took two years to complete and is now a lap blanket in my parent’s house! Yes, I tend to go overboard.

The ability to tap into a modern, vibrant network of fellow enthusiasts around the world has helped my knitting talents grow and bloom, from experiments in dyeing yarn and designing original patterns to creating unique stitch markers and other notions for yarn and fiber lovers.

I love to create handmade accessories that enrich people's lives. As such, I always sell things that I enjoy and would use myself. I'm a firm believer of the do unto others rule. That means that not only do I take great care in making, selling and shipping my own products, but I work hard to maintain great communications with everyone - so talk to me! Let's exchange some fire!

Payment
I accept PayPal and all major debit and credit cards, including Etsy gift cards. If you are using an eCheck or other form of delayed payment, please note that I will hold your item until I have received your payment. If using an alternate form of payment, please contact me within 24 hours of the end of the sale to let me know when you are sending your payment. If there has been no communication from you within 72 hours from the date of purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your order.
Shipping
Your order typically ships within 7 business days (10 calendar days), not including weekends and holidays. Be aware that requests for customized orders may extend the shipping window. If you need something by a specific date, I recommend leaving me a note and/or upgrading to Priority shipping when you check-out. Everything you buy from me is handed directly to my mailman, Steve, before being shipped off to you!

When your order ships you will receive two emails - one from Etsy confirming shipment and another from me (Exchanging Fire) via Stamps.com with your shipment date and tracking number. Please check your spam filters if you have not received these important messages.

Most items are shipped USPS First Class Mail and First Class Mail International, and heavier items are shipped via Priority Mail. Average shipping speeds vary from 3 to 7 days in the US, and international orders can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to arrive, according to the United States Postal Service.

Delivery confirmation is included for free with your order and is available for all US and Canadian addresses. Be aware that the postal service's tracking system may take 24 hours or more to update itself and that international shipping is not always trackable.

To add expedited shipping or shipping insurance to your order, simply use the dropdown menu in your cart to select the appropriate add-on. Insurance is available for both domestic and International buyers. It typically ranges from $2-5 USD for an order and can be selected at checkout.

Please make sure that your address is correct and up-to-date, as due to shipping liabilities, I can only ship to the verified address given through Etsy and/or PayPal. If you need to change the address for any reason after placing your order, please let me know immediately and I will cancel the transaction and let you reorder using the updated address.

If you need to combine shipping on separate orders placed around the same time I will do my best to honor your request, but be aware that it may not always be possible. During the Christmas season (from Black Friday through the New Year) I cannot combine orders due to the extremely high order volume. Thank you!
Refunds and Exchanges
If you receive a product that you have changed your mind about, you are welcome to return it for a refund of the purchase price paid. If you would like to exchange an item, please note that these exchanges will be processed as returns. Simply return the item as described below and then purchase the new product you would like to have.

To return items, ship the merchandise back within 14 days of receiving them in their original, saleable condition. Shipping charges for no-fault returns are non-refundable.

If you need to exchange an item due to an error on my part (such as receiving the wrong quantity or a defective product) please send me a convo with your name, email address, product name(s), order date and information about the issue you are having. Once I either receive a photo of the problem or the item back in the mail and verify the issue, I will replace the item at my expense and issue you a credit for the return shipping.

I package items carefully and cannot be held responsible for shipping damage or lost items, as shipping insurance is always offered. Please contact me if you need help filling out any insurance claims.

Frequently asked questions

Estimated shipping and handling times

Many of the items I create are handmade at the time of purchase, and the time it takes to put your order together can be anywhere from 3 to 7 business days (10 calendar days).

Don't know when your order is due to ship? Select "Purchases and Reviews" under the drop-down menu in the right hand corner of your screen. There you will see your order and if you click on "Receipt" you'll see the estimated date your order is due to ship.

I'll do my best to meet these shipping estimates, but cannot guarantee them, especially during high ordering periods. Actual delivery time will depend on the shipping method you choose. See my shop policies for more details on shipping.

Repair and replacement of stitch markers

I'm happy to make free repairs to stitch markers that have fallen apart from being worked hard and well-loved. Just send me any damaged markers (don't forget the important pieces, like the beads because I'll need those!) and I'll restring, rehang, and make them as good as new. Then I'll send them back to you free of charge.

Information about miniskein sets

Miniskein sets are handmade at the time of your order. Multiple sets may be purchased - just message me if you'd like a larger quantity then what is currently available in the shop.

Pictures of the miniskein sets are a representation of what you could receive from my collection. For those miniskein lovers who'd like to see what some of the yarns they are purchasing look like, take a peek at the full skeins in my Mini Made Flickr photostream: www.flickr.com/photos/ladydanio/sets/72157628409098037/

Allergies and pets

Please note that my items come from a smoke-free, cat-friendly household. Though my cat does not play with my products (she is totally bored by the knitting process), be aware that a wisp of stray hair could make its way into your package.

Photographs and images

I describe and photograph my products as accurately as possible using a Panasonic DMC-LX7 camera with a Leica macro lens in natural lighting.

Due to variations between monitors, your personal monitor settings, minor variations of daylight, color filters, or the uniqueness of the products themselves, the items you receive may vary slightly from the photos you see.
