About

Doing What I Love

I really am failry new to the beach glass/sea glass world, having only discovered these beautiful gems in 2007. Growing up inland away from lakes and oceans I did not even know of the existence of these precious pieces.

It was not until 2007 when my son was married on a beach in the Outer Banks of North Carolina that I first learned about seaglass when his brides mother said she was going looking for it. When I asked her what that was, she explained it to me, showed me the book Pure Sea Glass by Richard Lamotte and a few pieces that were on display in their rental beach house. Not thinking much of it and knowing it was only an ocean thing and I seldom went to the ocean I guess I wasn't all that impressed...boy was I wrong!

In October of 2007 while fishing along the shores of Lake Erie, I saw two ladies walking the beach collecting something. When I asked them, they showed me the tiny pieces of colored beach glass they were collecting and showed me the jewelry they were wearing made from these beautiful pieces. Little did I know beach glass could be found on Lake Erie! I began walking the beach and was happy when I found some of these gems myself. It was a couple of weeks later, again fishing along the shores of Lake Erie, that our golden retriever Ginger dug a nice hole in the gravel and going thru the loose dirt I found the most fabulous teardrop shaped aqua and from that point I was hooked! Now instead of fishing, I collect beach glass and even my husband, who lives to fish, puts his pole down and collects with me.

At his encouragement, I started making jewels for myself and as gifts for friends and family. Eventually he convinced me that I could sell my products. Thus began the world of Etsy for me. I joined Etsy in early 2010. Since then I have even gone the way of art and craft shows where I have done well.

I recently retired from a state government job and now can devote more time doing what I love and delight in sharing my passion. I now travel to the lakes and oceans in search of beauty to share with you. My husband joins me, not only at the beach but at craft shows and is now getting involved in learning how to solder sterling.

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you enjoy browsing my shop and will stop by often.

I have recently retired and can now spend more time doing what I love and love what I do, which is collecting genuine surf tumbled beach glass from which I design and create unique pieces of jewelry.

    Beach Glass Buddy

Ginger is my best beach buddy, besides my husband of course. She loves the beach where she has freedom to run and dig and enjoy life. She loves people and often joins us at art/craft shows. She is our "mascot" as well as our constant companion and I delight in making her a part of our beach glass experiences.

Welcome to Lake Gems Beach Glass. I delight in finding special gems washed in to shore from deep in Lake Erie that I can turn in to beautiful and exciting designs to share. All beach glass seaglass used in my creations are genuine and personally gathered by me and my husband along the shores of Lake Erie. I use only authentic, genuine beach glass. Other than drilling some pieces, the glass is not altered in any way, it is as we found it on the beach.
