Announcement   I've been sewing for sometime now and continue to get more and more satisfaction the more I do it. I remember my first sewing machine and all the things I could create with it. And now I look at where I am and where I've come from and think that all good things start with a small dream!

Welcome to Laminated! This shop is an extension of my love for waterproof fabric. I love it straight off the roll...I love it made into a beach bag...I love it under a child's painting easel. I mean, who doesn't love something so completely hand-wipeable!?!

Laminated Cotton vs. Oilcloth

LAMINATED COTTON: At the base of these fabrics is a regular quilting cotton weight cloth. The wrong side of the fabric is the base quilting cotton. The right side of the fabric is laminated with a polyurethane, the coating does not contain Phthalates and they are not made with vinyl or PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and best of all are CPSIA compliant.

OILCLOTH: The current textiles we see referred to as ‘oilcloth’ are actually PVC-coated woven cotton fabric. NOT CPSIA compliant. While there is no lead in the oilcloth, the levels of Phthalates are too high to comply with the new standards for items which are going to be sold and are intended to be used by children under 12 years old. However, tablecloths and splat mats are not considered children's items, but rather house-hold items. Bib and children's clothing made from oilcloth is a big no-no.

What is CPSIA?
It stands for Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act

It's the Federal Act of 2008 which states that children's products cannot contain more than 300 parts per million of lead. “Children’s product” are defined as “a consumer product designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger.”

Three phthalates, DEHP, DBP, and BBP, have also been permanently prohibited by Congress in concentration of more than 0.1% in “children’s toys” or “child care articles.” A “children’s toy” means a product intended for a child 12 years of age or younger for use when playing, and a “child care article” means a product that a child 3 and younger would use for sleeping, feeding, sucking or teething.
