5 out of 5 starsI have bought laminated fabric several times from this wonderful shop. They always provide excellent, friendly customer service and the laminated fabric is beautifully soft but durable. It is easy to sew with and whatever you sew it will last for many years. Items are packed with care which adds to the pleasure of shopping here.

5 out of 5 starsI want an easy to clean tablecloth for everyday use, but not the standard flannel back plastic style. In addition my table is oversized (54 x 54). I ordered one of the wide laminates available in a matte finish. I am so impressed with the fabric ... I think people will be surprised that it is a wipe-able cloth tablecloth. The order arrived quickly and was packaged well. My only caution to others, remember that each unit is a half yard and not a full yard!

Who is Deb?
Hi! I started this adventure after making clothes for my grand kids - in particular handmade raincoats. Being unable to keep up with demand I closed the shop and started selling this hard to find fabric instead. I LOVE scouring different fabric designer blogs to find new and exciting prints and products and hope you find something you like. Have ?s about the product? See my FAQ below or contact me.

What makes a fabric considered safe for children's products? (see below re: Food Safe and BPA free detail)
All my fabrics are CPSIA approved *The USA Federal Act of 2008 states that children's products cannot contain more than 300 parts per million of lead. “Children’s products” are defined as “a consumer product designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger.” Three phthalates, DEHP, DBP, and BBP, have been permanently prohibited by Congress in concentration of more than 0.1% in “children’s toys” or “child care articles.” A “child care article” means a product that a child 3 and younger would use for sleeping, feeding, sucking or teething. Producers selling children's products are required to meet these guidelines within the USA.
If you sell children's products request a testing certificate for your records
What is laminated cotton and how is it different from oilcloth?
My laminated cotton is softer and more pliable - Mine are made using high quality designer cotton fabric with a thin (1 mil) layer of waterproof protection added between the selvedges (edges) - it's easier to sew (see sewing tips on my website) and approved for use in childrens' products. It's wipeable and washable - as with most cotton fabrics be sure to "set" color - especially darks & reds - if you plan on washing or storing wet products (ie: wet bags)
Oilcloth is made using petroleum products and is NOT safe for children's products - It's more "stiff" and less pliable - I do not sell the traditional oilcloth, but many people still refer to laminated cotton as oilcloth so I use it as a search term.
How do you care for laminated cotton fabric? Any special sewing techniques?
Care instructions:
Wipe clean / Machine wash cold. Tumble dry low. Remove promptly. To save shipping costs this fabric will arrive folded and gentle ironing may be required. This fabric has no UV protection and prolonged outdoor use is not recommended. Shipping in a tube within the US is available by adding this to your cart https://www.etsy.com/listing/108850165/
I have always washed and dried the laminates I sell, but it changes the "look" as the cotton shrinks a bit - and it becomes less shiny - so please TEST first to see if it gives you the "look" you like. The older cotton laminates (I don't carry any) did come separated when washed.
See sewing tips and techniques are on my website! http://www.laminatedcottonfabric.com/
Does your laminated cotton work for chair pads, bibs, raincoats, tablecloths, splat mats, etc.? Does it have UV protection?
Yes, it works well - but it's not thick like naugahyde. You can visit my facebook page for photos of seat cushion projects here at https://www.facebook.com/justlaminates and samples are available (4/$1.00) here https://www.etsy.com/listing/74490962/ so you can see it first. The fabric is wipeable, soft, pliable and waterproof.
UV protection? - No it does not - It is not intended for continued outdoor use. The cotton will fade and deteriorate with the sun exposure.
Can you iron your laminated cotton fabric? or have it shipped with a tube?
Some manufacturers suggest no ironing and "Finger pressing" is usually the recommended option ... and often this is just fine ... BUT if you choose to iron here's what I've found successful - but please test first.
Trim the selvedges (where the laminate ends on the sides) so it doesn't stick to your ironing cloth, board or iron. Iron on the non-laminated side being careful not to touch the iron to the laminated surface. I sometimes increase the heat and add steam too. I use a starch alternative if needed. I can't always get out all the wrinkles, but this works for me. I do have tube shipping available and listed in my store.
See my website and facebook for tips - project pictures and techniques!
Can I return my fabric? or purchase samples?
Due to this fabric being cut to length and health policies I cannot accept returns unless I've made a mistake. Please purchase samples if in doubt about the product or color as monitors can change the appearance.
Samples are listed in the store (4/$1.00 ) in the custom / samples / tube section or here is the direct link https://www.etsy.com/listing/74490962/
Does your laminated cotton have BPA?
The suppliers in the US are required to meet CPSIA compliance - Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act - but are not required to test for BPA - but many have - IF the manufacturer has provided me written documentation of testing I add "BPA free" to the listing.
This does NOT mean that there is BPA in the others - just that they haven't provided me written test documents.
Can you make me a tablecloth? or if I do it myself do the edges fray?
I'm sorry - I stopped taking orders for sewing when the store got so busy. Some people purchase the fabric from me and have someone else make the tablecloth - I can ship directly to your seamstress if you'd like that - just be sure to change the shipping address when you place your order.
Do the edges fray? Generally the laminate keeps the edges from fraying - and if you're patient you can trim with sharp zig zag or decorative scissors, but you may get the occasional thread.
Is your laminate food safe?
Most of my laminates have been tested* and approved as "food safe" You can search "within" my store using "food safe" to view the laminates and lining that have been approved. Food can be placed hot or cold but not to be used for heating food. Not tested for storing beverages. To be washed properly before use. Request certification from me if you are selling children's products with your order.
*Tested and complied with FDA 21 CFR 175.300 for resinous and polymeric coatings used in articles that contact food. Link to FDA information https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?fr=175.300
