About

Who is Deb?

Hi! I started this adventure after making children's clothes for my grandkids - in particular handmade raincoats. Friends, and friends of friends kept asking me to make them and fellow sewists wanted to know where they could get the fabrics I used - so here I am.

I LOVE scouring different designer blogs and manufacturers to find new and exciting prints and products, especially since laminates have improved so much in just the past few years.

What do I do when I'm not working in the shops?
♥ I travel a LOT!
♥ I make sure I learn something new everyday.
♥ I treat myself to good friends as much as possible.
♥ I spend as much time with my family as I can.

oh - and I love to autocross our 60's car

Hope you have a wonderful shopping experience - I'm glad to meet you.
Please visit my policy page here for detail of the fabrics I carry - how the shop is set up - and common questions https://www.etsy.com/shop/Laminates/policy

Welcome to my store for Laminated cotton fabric (aka coated fabric, oilcloth or vinyl) - I'm so glad you stopped by. I make children's raincoats and decided to open a store with the fabrics I use (some of which I have professionally made and you won't find anywhere else) I am also stocking coordinating cotton woven fabric and notions. All of my fabrics meet CPSIA (**Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) standards. (I do not carry the "traditional" oilcloth as it does not meet these standards and should not be used for young children) All these laminates are soft, pliable, waterproof and easy to sew using a few simple techniques. This fabric is wipeable, and most are washable (as with most cotton fabrics be sure to "set" color - especially darks - if you are going to wash ... there are you tube videos). Used for raincoats, tablecloths, purses, splat mats, bibs, and upholstery. No UV protection has been added to this fabric and it will fade in direct sunlight. Please purchase samples if in doubt about color as monitors can change the appearance.

♥ My store is divided up into "sections" much like departments

♥ Laminated cotton fabric by the yard - these are 100% designer cotton fabrics from manufacturers such as Michael Miller, Riley Blake and Free Spirit/Westminster. Their fabrics arrive to me laminated with a very thin polyurethane waterproof layer on the PRINT side and are usually (but not always) shiny. Some are generally meant to be "wiped clean" but most are now machine washable. Laminates are improving all the time - especially in the past few years. The laminates I carry are CPSIA approved** and most have been tested for BPA (manufacturers are not required to test for BPA- if they have tested I will enter BPA free on the listing - otherwise I won't (even if they may be BPA free) Some people refer to this fabric as "oilcloth" "vinyl" or "coated" - the fabrics I carry are NOT oilcloth as oilcloth does not meet CPSIA safety guidelines - nor are they made from vinyl. I carry both WIDE (see below) and standard widths. The laminating process prevents laminate to adhere at the outermost edges - It is normal and will need to be trimmed - I note the width of the laminated portion on each listing.

♥ Laminated wide 55"+ cotton fabric by the yard - see above. These are 55" or more wide.

♥ Laminated Cotton on back (non-print side) - aka cotton PUL (poyurethane) - This section has both continuous by-the-yard and smaller pieces. If you want waterproof fabric, but don't like the shine, then this is the fabric for you. Perfect for changing pads, crib sheets, raincoats - tested great for diapers too (for those with sensitivities to polyester!) - endless ideas - Lamination is on the NON print side. This fabric has been laminated with a thin layer of PUL, otherwise known as polyurethane which was originally developed for the medical field. It provides a waterproof barrier that can be machine washed and dried. My fabric is professionally laminated with a 1 mil thickness on the NON-Print side - It is extremely pliable and easy to sew. All my PUL is BPA free and CPSIA approved*

♥ 18" x 20" & 20" x 20" Laminated on BACK (see above) - This section has been included in the Laminated cotton on back section. This is cotton fabric that has the special PUL laminate applied on the non-print side. These fabrics have been precut to 20" x 20" or larger (see cotton PUL section for more detail on what PUL is) Good for bibs, wet bags, mama pads and more. Polyester has been the choice for diapering, but the improvements in laminates now make cotton just as good a choice (and it's easier to sew)

♥ 18" x 20" & 20" x 20" laminated on front - These are laminated cotton cuts of fabric that have been laminated by the manufacturers - perfect for bibs, changing pads, wet bags, small bags, etc. Mama testing has proved these work wonderfully for diapers too (now that laminate processes have improved.) All the fabrics are laminated cotton unless noted.

♥ 1/2 yard (18" x 40") remnants - These are pre-cut folded pieces of laminated cotton fabric that are approximately 18" x 40" - See Laminated cotton by the yard for further details.

♥ Sale Laminated / remnants - Special discounts on clearance laminates and folded remnants. (includes iron on vinyl and fleece remnants)

♥ Iron-on vinyl / Food Safe - This section contains my Food Safe barrier fabric which is a POLYESTER laminate and I offer an iron-on vinyl in shiny or matte so you can make your own laminate using your fabric (this isn't the same product used on the manufactured laminate)

♥ Cotton fabric by the yard (not laminated) - This section is for the non-laminated fabrics. Most coordinate with the laminates I sell. This section includes corduroy, flannel and double faced quilted fabric. These fabrics are designer cottons from established and reputable companies like Free Spirit / Westminster, Riley Blake, Timeless Treasures and Moda. All meet CPSIA guidelines.

♥ Sale cotton / remnants - Special discounts on clearance cottons and cotton remnants (not laminated)

♥ Patterns / Notions - and a few notions that work well with laminated fabric --- and some patterns that I love.

♥ Custom / Samples / Tubes - This section is for custom listings, sample requests and the option to ship your fabric in or wrapped around tubes (US only) I use pictures from the manufacturers, but please purchase samples if in doubt about color as monitors can change the appearance.

**It's the Federal Act of 2008 which states that children's products cannot contain more than 300 parts per million of lead. “Children’s product” are defined as “a consumer product designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger.” Three phthalates, DEHP, DBP, and BBP, have been permanently prohibited by Congress in concentration of more than 0.1% in “children’s toys” or “child care articles.” A “children’s toy” means a product intended for a child 12 years of age or younger for use when playing, and a “child care article” means a product that a child 3 and younger would use for sleeping, feeding, sucking or teething.
