About

Two Friends, Late Nights, and Satisfying Soap

We canned our food, cooked from scratch, soaked our grains, made our own deodorant, fermented our veggies, brewed kombucha, and one day decided to tackle the last remaining un-crunchified product in our respective homes: soap. For gifts, we said. Let's try it, we said.
Until the first batch.
The first time we saw the magic of saponification (the turning of oils and lye into soap), we were stupefied, mesmerized by the creamy, pudding-like texture of the soap as we poured it into our improvised molds. We're doing this forever and always, amen, we said.
We had some vision, pretty simple: great natural soap, no artificial fragrances nor colors, all ingredients we'd be glad to put on our own skin, at prices that aren't maddening. There is plenty of expensive soap out there and plenty of detergent bars (most commercial "soaps" aren't even legally called such because they've denuded the bars of naturally-occurring glycerin), so our niche is really good soap at decent prices. We're proud of our soap; we find it completely satisfying to make, use, and provide for consumers beyond our own front porches.

Sincerely,
The Soap Chefs

Hi! I am the co-owner of Lancaster Soap Co. I can talk about soap until the cows come home. At which point I'll probably milk them and make a rockin' milk soap.

Hi! I am the other face of Lancaster Soap Co. I love all things soap! Seeking to make all natural skin care products for our families, we set out on this soap making adventure together. We hope you love our soaps as much as we love making them!

Shop policies

Last updated on April 9, 2015
We at Lancaster Soap Co. craft soap in small batches with the traditional methods of cold process and French-milling, and utilize all-natural ingredients in every bar. All of our soaps maintain their full amount of natural, skin-moisturizing glycerin, along with therapeutic-grade essential oils for their scent and skin benefits. We use only natural colorants as well; clays, root powders, spices, activated charcoal, and more!

In an effort to be mindful of our carbon footprint, many of our oils, essential oils, molds, and other supplies are sourced locally. We also use recycled fabric remnants, papers, and old buttons and lace in our soap wrappings, giving them a second life as "soap clothes"! Besides being eco-friendly, it's a lot of fun!

Our goal is to provide excellent handmade soaps at reasonable prices, and nothing makes us happier than knowing that we're providing a quality product to our clients.
