Announcement   All my hand painted cards and originals have free shipping inside the USA.

Custom work: If you have any special wishes and you can't find it in my listings but you think I might be able to help, please don't be afraid to contact me.
Also if you want a specific size let me know. While I can't promise anything I will see what I can do for you.

In my store you can purchase prints, original art work and hand made cards inspired by the ocean and nature.

Currently I paint in two styles. One is on cold pressed watercolor paper which gives it a more realistic look and recently I discovered yupo paper where the end result has more of a loose appearance and also reminds of batik paintings.

Most of my prints are available in two sizes and include a mat. Please check each listing for detailed information.

If you want to follow my progress of new art work and keep up to date you can also follow me on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/landandseaartstudio/

Update Aug2018: After thinking about it for a long time I decided to close my good cause item section. Unfortunately some of these items didn't get many views at all so putting them in a more descriptive category hopefully will changed that. While I still would like to help animal rescue with my art work I got to think about other and hopefully more successful approaches how to do this.

About

Hello my name is Sandra and I'm originally from Germany. At the moment I live in Herndon/Virginia. In my shop you can purchase prints and some original pieces of art. Most prints come with a mat please check the listings for further details. I work with pencil, charcoal, pastel but my favorite medium is watercolor or watercolor with ink. Watercolor is very versatile and I love to experiment around with it. I took different classes/workshops in person and online, read books and I continue to do so. You can never learn enough.

Recently I discovered yupo paper while it is not easy to control, it can produce interesting textures and it makes very vibrant colors. Most of these paintings are more in a loose style while the rest which was painted on cold pressed watercolor paper is more realistic. So in my store you can find both.

I love being outside in nature. To walk around and enjoy the peace and quiet and be in the company of animals. Most of my work is nature inspired and half of it is connected to the ocean. There is just something special about the ocean. The first time I saw it was when I was 6 and I was sent to a little Island -many hours away from my home town- by the North Sea for 6 weeks so my health would get better. This was the first time I was away from my parents. I still remember when I saw the ocean. It was wild and gray and windy. Every day we would walk to the beach to collect sea shells.

Now many years later I lived at different parts along the East coast of the USA. While the ocean is not around my corner I'm able to do daytrips and little vacations to the beach or the bay once in a while and besides this I learn as much about the ocean as I can. My last class was all about sharks :).

Mostly I work from photos. I'm also a member in different groups where people donate their photos (including myself) and allow people to paint and sell them. While I take my own photography seriously and have tons of photos, I still find it inspiring to use other peoples work, just to see other places and things. While not always required (every group got different rules) I will mention the photographer and include his/her name in pencil on back of my work here on my Etsy store. If there is no extra name mentioned, I used copyright free images from pixabay or was inspired by my own images.

Sometimes I stay very close to the photo, other times I re-arrange things, change colors, mix different photos together or only use part of it.

My goal is to make affordable art for everybody. My work will come hinged -please check the photo above the text to see what it looks like-. This means the artwork is removable. You should be able to find a frame to fit your work in with the mat. I think nothing is worse as buying a matted piece which is not removable and so thick that you need to get it custom framed.

In my shop the main focus will be on ocean themed art but with time I will also include other nature inspired art pieces here and there. So stay tuned.

Update: Heather's story
Heather is the little beagle and my assistant (moral support and supervising everything ;)). In December 2015 we went to watch the Scottish Parade here in our town and after seeing all these rescue dogs we felt the need to go to the shelter. It was 2 1/2 years ago by then that we have lost our dog Snoopy but never felt quite ready to adopt. But this time we saw Heather. She was outside her kennel with her back facing us and shaking. When she turned around to look at me, she looked so sad and it went right into my heart. We kept on coming back and checking up on her and we were finally able to meet and adopt her. Heather is such a sweetheart. She loves going out to the dog park, for long hikes in the woods and to push us with her nose so she gets the cuddles she deserves. She makes life so much happier.
