5 out of 5 starsThe picture on the site did not do this stone justice! The color is wonderful and the stone itself is substantially large! I am going to set it in a nice ring! This is the third stone that I bought from Kelly! The quality of his stones are bar none!

5 out of 5 starsAs usual, Kelly has faceted a beautiful ark colored garnet stone! I cannot wait to mount it into a beautiful setting! I love the blood red color of this stone. Im not usually one who would buy a stone buy itself, but I love this one! LaneGemsandLapidary is wonderful!! And when you email Kelly with a question, he responds quickly.!

5 out of 5 starsI wanted to buy a ring for my mom. Her birthstone is amythest, but she never really seemed attracted it. After not seeing what I liked, Kelly told me that he can make me a ring from scratch. We explored stones that he had available and Kelly recommended a "Sunstone" that he could create out of a rough rock. In advance, Kelly said that I had no obligation to buy it, and that I could always return it if I was not satisfied. He made the gemstone and emailed me the polished stone to see its true color and design. I loved it. He then picked out the setting and shortly afterwards sent me the finished ring. It is stunning! It looks like a champagne colored diamond! And SUNSTONE is found in Arizona! I cant wait for her to open up the box and see this ring! Now I want one too! Thank you again, Kelly!!!

5 out of 5 starsThis is the most beautiful piece of tourmaline that I have found. I’ve been looking for one for awhile, and although I saw this one at LGL since doing business with them, I fought that it was the ugliest one that I’ve EVER seen! Well for some reason after looking at black tourmaline pieces on Etsy for awhile, I saw that the bale was better than most, and after reading up more on how some will look like there are other colors in it, I said to myself, “Ok, why not.” Well when I took it out of the very nicely padded (and expediently shipped) package, it was BEAUTIFUL! It’s jet black like most, but the way that it is cut, it lays flatly against my chest, as though it belong there! Now it lays next to my herkimer diamond like Best friends! Thank you!

The Path Less Taken...
American Gemstone Cutter
The pursuit of the well cut gemstone. Yes, most all gemstones are beautiful and make great jewelry and provide much enjoyment. But, the well cut gemstone is set apart by it's maximized beauty and precision cut.
Most all commercially available gemstones are cut in Asia in mass quantity. The Asian cutters have two priorities, yield and speed. In other words get the most carat weight out of the gemstone rough in the quickest fashion. These two priorities produce stones that are cut way below what their potential could have been.
Gemstones all have unique light reflecting properties that need to be taken into consideration when cutting the stone. Angles have to be chosen carefully to get that fire that everyone wants to see. Most times to achieve that greater potential of the stone, carat weight has to be sacrificed. This simply will not happen with the Asian cutters because too much money is at stake and profit must be maximized. It is the way of things...
As an American gemstone cutter my focus is on the quality of the cut to enhance a piece of gemstone rough to it's greatest potential. Angles are cut properly, facets are cut in proper proportions, and polishing is done to as close to perfection as possible. A typical finished gemstone of mine can take a total of 5-8 hours to complete. My cuts will be unique patterns not likely be seen in any jewelry store. The Asian cutting houses simply would go out of business if they took the proper time to finish a gemstone to the same standards. The extra effort spent is well worth it in terms of beauty return.
Kindest Regards & God Bless,
Kelly

My artistic and rock hound tendencies started when I was a child. I have always been able to spend hours creating art. Likewise today I can spend hours cutting a single gemstone and the time melts away!
