These are the greatest things ever!
It all started at Basil's Newstand.
When I was 4 my grandfather bought me an issue of Avengers #114. I couldn't read what the characters were saying but I loved the colorful costumes and the fact that the women had cleavage was an added bonus. Yes, even at 4 years old I was noticing boobies!
That one comic has lead to a life long obsession. I wouldn't say I'm a typical fanboy comic reader. I enjoy reading comics, but I can't quote word for word the dialogue between Tony Stark and the Mad Thinker from issue #786 of Iron Man. I won't debate with you who will win in a fight between Batman and Daredevil...everyone knows Batman would kick Daredevils ass and then make him go to the kitchen and make him a sandwich.
I now have my own line of self published mini comics called Last Dollar Comics which at times has brought a mediocre amount of success and joy along with a insurmountable amount of heartache.
The name Last Dollar Comics came from a discussion with my friend Terry. On the way home from a rather disappointing day at a comic show, we were talking about how hard it is to get people to look at our stuff. Our imprint at the time was Eight Ball Graphics which wasn't inspiring sales among convention attendees. Terry bemoaned about how we spend so much time on our work and how we spend every last dollar we have to produce that work. That's when the proverbial light bulb went off! The next day I took an old piece of cardboard and a black sharpie marker, scratched out the words Last Dollar Comics and back to the show we went. We sold gang busters that day. An over night success. Okay - sort of.
I've been self publishing for over 20 years and have created more than 50 books, many of which you can purchase here on Etsy.
When I'm not working, which is pretty much all of the time, I like to sleep.
I never know what to write when I'm asked to write a bio. I'm a grumpy old curmudgeon who lives in upstate New York where it seems like it snows 8 months out of the year. I draw comics, caricatures and cartoons.
