Quite simply, I paint because it makes me happy. It's incredibly fulfilling to start with a blank canvas and create an image that conjures up memories and emotion. I love oil paints because I have more freedom for change with the longer dry time, and I find the buttery texture a real pleasure to work with. For each painting that I create, I try to decide on what the focus or priority for it will be, and center my attention on keeping the surrounding details somewhat limited in their supporting role. Design to me is about keeping things clean with an obvious focal point of interest. I make use of both brush and palette knife to have a mix of clearly illustrated portions to the painting as well as implied areas.
