LauraMeilmanArt is taking a short break
I am an artist and illustrator based in Cambridge, MA. I have been drawing for as long as I have been able to hold a crayon and after studying oil painting in college, I have begun to focus on marker, acrylic paint, and watercolor as my mediums of choice. I am inspired by landscapes, cities, and unique atmospheric conditions (like fog and sunsets for example). In short, I am inspired by my surroundings and I love being able to explore new places and turn them into art.
When I first moved to the Boston area I explored the city via public transit and drew each subway station in marker, an endeavor that I called "Project T-Scapes" (named of course for our nickname for Boston's subway system, "the T"). Project T-Scapes caught the attention of media sources local and national and I was excited to be able to share my work with such a wide audience. While I love finding new places to draw, I also see a deep value in finding what is beautiful in my everyday life, even in things not traditionally considered beautiful. I hope that idea is manifest in my drawings of subway stations.
In addition to landscapes and subways, I have illustrated posters, advertisements, greeting cards, and even a songbook. Future project ideas include coloring books, and of course finding new and inspirational places to draw!
