Ich bin in der schottischen Stadt Paisley geboren und aufgewachsen und habe mein ganzes Leben hier gelebt. Als ich aufwuchs, war ich mir der Geschichte der Stadt bewusst, als ich an den alten Gebäuden der Ferguslie Mill vorbeiging, um jeden Tag zur Schule zu kommen, war es schwer, nicht zu sein. Aber ich habe Paisleys Geschichte nie ganz gewürdigt.
Das Paisley-Muster stammt nicht von Paisley, es ist ein historisches Blumenmuster persischen Ursprungs und wurde auf Kaschmir-Tüchern aus Indien verwendet. Paisley wurde zum Synonym für das Muster, da es über das Fachwissen und die Technologie verfügte, um erschwinglichere Versionen des Kaschmir-Schals zu reproduzieren. I was born and bred in the Scottish town of Paisley and have lived here all my life. Growing up I was aware of the towns history, walking past what was left of the old Ferguslie Mill buildings to get to school every day it was hard not to be. But I never fully appreciated Paisley's history.
The Paisley pattern didn't originate from Paisley, it's a historic floral pattern of Persian origin and was used on Kashmir shawls from India. Paisley became synonymous with the pattern as it had the expertise and technology to reproduce more affordable versions of the Kashmir shawl. They weren't the only place to make reproduction of the shawls but they did so on such a large scale that the pattern became forever known as the Paisley pattern.
It has gone in and out of fashion over the years but it has never disappeared, test-amount to its universal appeal.
The history of the Paisley pattern is important that in 2017 the Paisley Shawl was named as one of 25 objects that shaped Scotland's History.
