Each of these paintings uses gems and precious stones like lapis lazuli, azurite, and ochre ground into paint mixed with gouache, and 22K gold. They are paintings of Tibetan and Hindu deities, based on centuries old traditional iconography, brought to life with a contemporary hand, each one with a story to tell, a life lesson to be learned.

I also write - whimsical cheerful stories, always with tongue in cheek bits of wisdom from the classics peppering the pages. My books "5 Secrets of the River Qi", and O Deity Divine!, and a divination deck based on my paintings and writings are also available here in my shop.

When I'm not painting I can be found meditating, walking along a river out in the wilds of Oregon or gardening. Painting focuses the heart and mind on stillness - its a really good feeling, experiencing that while making something of beauty. I hope you enjoy these works.

Guidelines for Commissioning an artwork

I can recreate new paintings of existing classical works of Himalayan artworks and Indian artworks to the best of my abilities. I also work on new compositions. Most often I combine imagery from existing artworks and my and the commissioners ideas into a painting. I’m interested in painting in older styles of Buddhist and Hindu art from the 7th - 9th centuries. I try and paint the deities as they are historically represented in the various religious traditions they represent, although I can also think outside the box. I paint with vintage or antique colors. I like people to give me examples of imagery they like as it helps me envision what they want, and I’ll do the same for you to show you my ideas.

To begin working, I’ll ask for a non-refundable deposit, 1/3 to 1/2 of the total amount, depending on the size and complexity of the image. I’ll give you an estimate for how long it will take to complete. There may be a payment mid-way through the process, or just one final payment upon completion. Paintings can take between 1 week - 2 years, but most often between 1 - 4 months.

Mailing fees and sometimes 22k gold paint prices, depending on how much gold you want in the piece, are added to that total fee.

We’ll talk about all of this and come up with fees that works with your budget and ideas.

I will then work up a sketch and show that to you to sign off on. I’m happy to take your ideas throughout that process but if there are extensive changes along the way or after the sketch is made and ageed upon, the price will be modified to accomodate the further work. I recommend that if you like my artworks enough to commission a new piece, that you bring your ideas of how it should look along with the idea that final works will be new and surprising to both you and me. Be open and excited that this new painting will be a unique new living piece of sacred art.

In the USA where I live artists retain the rights to their work. I often sell prints of my paintings. If you want to buy the rights to your painting that is an option. If you own the rights, I won’t make prints of your artwork for other people.

Thank you for your interest in my art!
Laura

Here is my new painting rough sketch- perhaps it is Sitala… She will sit for now, as I have a new commission for the Eight Matrika goddesses. Among her qualities -she catches the blood of demons slayed in battle to keep it from turning into more demons.
I’m switching directions…
This goddess is a goddess of our times, a combination of Palden Lhamo the protector, Kali the goddess of time and death, and the goddess of vitality and life- Vajra Varahi-
She’s a cosmos whirl of change , death and renewal.
Like Kubera, Lam Lha is a protector deity, flying thru the sky on her golden bee, she is a patron saint for travelers.
I think her sketch has come along well- now what sort of clothes should my Lam Lha wear?

I love to paint Hindu and Buddhist deity art, and lately have made pen and ink illustrated books inspired by them. I share these ancient art forms through the giclee prints I sell and my coloring books "O Deity Divine! & "5 Secrets of the River Qi".

Brian is a very busy guy - at any one time he is working with more than 50 artists - like me - scanning their work and printing giclee prints from them. He is very good at what he does and strives to give you the best quality archival print available.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

The print sizes listed under "Options" are not standard framing sizes. I don't paint on standardized sized canvases, so each artwork is APPROXIMATELY the measurements listed. This is true for all prints except the $20 5"x 7" prints - (they ARE 5x7") and a few of the prints that are available only in one small size, like 3x4", or 6x6".

Wholesale availability

Yes! Happy to provide wholesale items - please contact the shop for a quote.

I accept returns on prints that are defective or damaged in transit only.

I only accept returns on prints that are defective or damaged in transit.
If a print is returned to me from your post office due to failure to pick up the item, I can refund you my costs only, ie, a partial refund.

What happens if I don't pick up my purchase from my post office?

When a buyer's purchase is held at their post office rather than being delivered to their address, it is the buyer's responsibility to contact the post office and arrange for pick-up of the item. You can find your tracking number for your item by looking at your "Purchases" page on Etsy, but if you have difficulty with that please contact me.
All VAT and customs issues are taken care of through Etsy.com for foreign orders when a buyer purchases from me.
My shop is not responsible for unclaimed items left at the post office, but I will do my best to help you.
