About

The Story of Lawrence Cottage's Long Locks and Luxury Fibers.

Lawrence Cottage all began in the busy, bustling city, strange as that may seem. A love of working with fiber begat a small herd of "Urban sheep", otherwise known as German Angora rabbits. For the love of their fiber these ladies that lived in the city with the lovely bunnies learned to hand shear, sort and spin their lovely soft wool. Soon they learned that angora fiber combined with sheep wool yielded a wonderful product. The sheep wool added memory to their yarn. Then for the love of sheep wool an old farm was bought. The farm was named Lawrence Cottage. The ladies of Lawrence Cottage fell in love with Gotland sheep. Then they had a very small flock of these wonderful friendly sheep that are native to the Isle of Gotland following all over the farm. The Gotland's were lovey shades of grey and black and no white was to be found. So the ladies of Lawrence Cottage sought out a few regal Teeswater sheep, native to Britain and very rare in the USA. The pearly white curls were fine and long and lustrous. And so the flock at Lawrence Cottage grew. The ladies of Lawrence Cottage worked to keep the flock healthy in order to produce a very fine wool crop every year. It was just enough work for the two ladies of Lawrence Cottage. They fed, and loved and sheared their sheep. Then they sorted and washed and spun the wool. They knit and sold their bounty. Today they seek to live happily ever after.
