Leaf Peeper Tea began at the Ocracoke Fig Festival in 2016 with a few packages of tea enhanced with figs and spices inspired by the famous fig cakes of Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. After successful sales there, the Village Craftsmen gallery began stocking the original Fig Cake Spice black tea, green tea, and red rooibos blends in 2017. The Leaf Peeper Tea collection has since expanded seasonally or as inspiration visits. Other longtime blends include Pirate Camp (smoked black tea) and a yaupon blend called Sippin' on the Pizer, which is in pouches sized for pots of hot tea or pitchers of iced tea. ("Pizer"--which rhymes with "wiser"--is a local word for porch.) One of the newest blends is FigMints of Imagination (a multi-mint tea).
Most of the Leaf Peeper tea stock is available at the Village Craftsmen gallery on Ocracoke Island. The Leaf Peeper shop on Etsy occasionally offers an expanded collection of products that vary in availability: rustic homemade soap, skin toner, bug bite spray, bitters, fig-infused vinegar, fig mustard, Village Bay herb and spice seasoning blend, etc.
Look for the Leaf Peeper Tea & Artisan Wares booth--which typically offers tea, baked goods and savory treats, and more--at festivals on Ocracoke Island.
