One mistake can lead to happiness.

I didn’t wake up one morning and think to myself, “I’m going to make lollipops for a living.” That was something that never entered my mind. I’ve been a mixologist, off and on, for 20 years and a photographer for 15. I had a craving to make something unique that combined my two loves, but at the time I had no idea what that was!

My first idea was rock candy. Any 3rd grade student can do it, so it should have been a piece of cake…right? Um, no… Apparently I had lost the ability to make rock candy. (Truthfully, I think you lose the ability to make rock candy, and open medicine bottles, after you reach high school.)
So now I had a 20lb bag of sugar and no clear idea what to do with it. And then it hit me. I had everything to make a lollipop!

I made a batch, it turned out ok. So I made another batch, it turned out a little better. I did that for four months, spending almost every day in the kitchen. I played with flavorings, oils, spices, even flowers (try the Rose & Honey lollipop, it’s divine). I mercilessly used my friends and family as taste testers (in retrospect, that might not have been such a tough job). I really thought they were going to start running away everytime I approached with a new handful of lollies and the constant refrain of “Please try this one, and let me know what you think.” But they were all wonderfully supportive, giving great feedback, and helping to build the dizzying array of tasty flavors on my menu.

The end result of all that stirring, tasting, experimenting, (and small sacrificing of waistlines), is what you will find in my little sweet shop. I hope you enjoy my lollies as much as I do. And remember, they’re not just for kids anymore!
