Lee Soren Johnston - jewellery handmade in Yorkshire using wood, sea glass and metal.
I create handmade jewellery from all sorts of materials, from wood, metals, glass, stone and horn. All my jewellery is handmade and finished in my cellar workshop at my home in Yorkshire.
I love taking something which no one sees value in, like a fallen tree branch, an off-cut of metal, a vintage ruler or an old snooker ball, and upcycling it into something that somebody will enjoy and treasure.
The only power tool I use is a drill press for the holes, everything else is completely done by hand. No laser cutting equipment or computerised machinery is used.
I collect vintage hand tools to use in my jewellery making, as I believe they are better quality than modern tools and were made with the same care and attention that I have for making jewellery. I hope some of that will pass into my work!
Since a young age, I've always enjoyed making things with my hands. I studied A-level art at college, and I like to make cosplay costumes to wear to conventions and fancy dress parties. I've been a tree surgeon for a few years and have learnt about different types of wood and how to work with it. Some of the wood pendants are made from bits of trees I have cut myself!
My interest in building and creating has taken me in many different directions, working with many materials and media. I've never liked to specialise in one thing because I get bored easily, but making jewellery allows me to branch out into different materials and techniques.
I genuinely enjoy the challenge of a custom order, as it will be something that I haven't thought of myself and will give me new challenges. Please contact me with any ideas you might have, if it's in my capabilities I'd love to create something for you.
