Everyday handcrafted minimal jewelry
Flush set stones in lunar inspired surfaces
Cast organics in recycled silver with 24k gold

I'm Sara, 21-year-old following my passion. I make each piece by hand in my studio on a tiny island off the coast of Massachusetts or biocoastly in Portland, OR.

I work both as bench jeweler and as a traditional silversmith. I recently graduated from the Oregon College of Art and Craft with a BFA in Craft with a concentration in metals. I enjoy working back and forth between wearable forms and minimal utilitarian objects. Starting at 11, I trained as a bench jeweler for nearly ten years and now have moved into using traditional silversmithing to explore the vessel as a metaphor to incorporate educational aspects from mathematics and science into myforms. In all of my work, I consider elements of wearability, functionality, and tactility. My pieces span from everyday minimal pieces of jewelry to wedding bands to functioning silver teapots. My Etsy shop is a small snippet of my work.

I will be returning to Martha's Vineyard Memorial Day weekend to continue showing at the Vineyard Artisans Festival on Sundays and Thursdays in July and August 10-2 pm. I make fresh batches of pieces for the shows and it will take me sometime to photograph them and put them in my Etsy shop. If you saw something at the show and don't see it here, please feel free to get into contact with me.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a convo or an email! Most pieces can be sized within a week and then shipped to you via priority mail. I am currently accepting custom orders and my time frame is about two weeks. I would love to work with you one-on-one to pick out stones for flush setting to statement rings or create your vision in metal.

In the meantime, my work can be found in Citrine on Main Street, Vineyard Haven, MA; Driftwood on Circuit Ave, Oak Bluffs, MA; Tesori in Edgartown, MA; and at Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland, OR.

My sculptural metalwork can be found on my website.

This is my second piece from Sara and I absolutely love it! I bought it for myself as a birthday treat and it couldn't be better. Perfect for a moon-child! The ruby adds such a special touch. Looking forward to adding to my collection!

About

A silversmith intrigued by science, tactility, and wearability

At 21, I've spent the last decade apprenticing and working as a bench jeweler and silversmith. When I was 11, I move to a small island called Martha's Vineyard and started apprenticing for a bench jeweler. I learned how to make settings, polish, solder, and the in's and out's of a retail shop for a self-employed artist.

When I was 15, I had a brief introduction to enameling in high school. Afterwards, I began to explore and teach myself the world of enameling. Essentially, I began to paint with the glass enamel while it was molten to create the abstract designs. Then, I started in fuse my enameling and metalworking skills together and started my business. Since then, I have been making my living as an artist and pursued a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Art in Craft with a concentration in Metals.

Today, I pivot back and forth between being a jeweler and a silversmith. In my wearable work, I make every piece by hand in my little studio. I only use silver and high carat gold as I've developed an affinity to precious metals. I've grown from enameling to incorporating casting into my work. I refrain from using molds; instead, I cast organic materials directly from nature (branches and blossoming buds) into sterling silver and delicately pressure weld 24k gold. I want to incorporate elements of the natural world into permanent pieces that capture a moment of nature.

My work is inspired by science, tacitly, and function. I consider how each piece is going to be worn on the body--the weight, the fit, and where it rests. I want my work to be worn everyday. It's critical that it's durable and comfortable.

I am drawn to the aesthetic of minimalism in both my wearable and sculptural work. Every aspect of the work is intentional and my craftsmanship is the best it can be.

In addition. I work as a traditional silversmith to create pieces that focus on the interaction between the viewer and the piece--that moment when the viewer touches, plays, interacts, unlocks, flips over, or opens the piece. I've created an entire body of work where I use the vessel as a metaphor to incorporate concepts of high level mathematics and science into the forms. I pair the duality of the precious laws of nature with the preciousness of silver to create mundane forms that can fit into the intimate scale of the hand. More about this work can be found on my website.

Other pieces in my shop use stones from a small number of well-respected and established stone dealers. They are a pleasure and a delight to see and pick first hands stones from them.

I show my work at the Vineyard Artisan Festivals on Martha's Vineyard in July and August on Sundays and Thursdays in addition to Memorial and Labor Day weekend.
