This is nineteen thirt-- No it isn't. It's 2015. I always forget that.
I can’t help but think what great era I live in. I know there is a lot of unrest in the world and it’s a shame society can’t learn from past mistakes but -- every morning I wake up I find a beautiful world. I think we all create our own worlds whether we want to admit it or not. I know I do. I did it again today when I stopped at a random barn sale and picked up a brown 1930’s suitcase and deco silk scarf. I’m forever surrounding myself with pieces of the past. A time in which I never lived but admire. I watch black and white movies and decorate my home with antiques. I listen to 1920’s music in my car and occasionally crank up the Edison Phonograph in my room. For a long time I was using a candlestick phone but my sister complained she could hardly hear me when she called. I’m fully aware of who the latest pop stars are and the hottest trends but they don’t mean anything to me. I’m grateful I live in time where I can reach back into the past just a little. I know a lot of people share my enthusiasm and love for days gone by and that’s why I want to share some of my designs here at Let’s Backtrack.
I know everyone says this but -- I love what I do. Walking up and down the fabric aisles looking just for the right pattern. When I pull out a bolt of cloth I think of the customer who is just going to love it only they don't know it yet. First I have to turn it into a flattering garment.
I use a Husqvarna sewing machine. I keep my patterns in vintage suitcases and I use a 1950's turquoise sunbeam iron.
I'm grateful to my customers. They are the best. ♥
