Welcome to Life In Grain! We are a small business run by Chad and Heidi Gamble, located just west of Cleveland, OH. We specialize in custom wood products and lithophanes made special for each and every customer.

* Free design proof, available upon request, with every custom order * Most shops charge extra for this service. We don't believe you should be charged extra to ensure you're happy with your order.

* High quality material * We use only the best available materials. Our personalized signs are made using a single piece of select pine. "Select" refers to the grade of lumber and is the highest grade available. Due to the potential health hazards related to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), we DO NOT use MDF, or other inferior grades of "wood" products. Welcome to Life In Grain. We are a custom wood working shop located in Northern Ohio. We specialize in custom carved items made from an array of materials from wood to plastics.

Accepted payment methods

Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns and exchanges
Contact me within: 3 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 7 days of delivery
I don't accept cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Items on sale
Returns and exchange details
NO refunds or exchanges on custom or personalized orders, no exceptions. We will submit design proofs for your approval, upon request, to ensure you will be happy with the final product.

Exchanges are accepted, for eligible items, but the customer is responsible for return shipping both ways. The only exceptions are damages caused in shipping in which we will file a claim with the shipping provider.
Payment
Full payment is due at time of order. We accept Paypal and direct checkout through Etsy.
Shipping
Shipping via USPS or FedEx. See item description for processing times and more details. Additional time may be required for multiple design changes, delay in buyer response, etc. See FAQ for more information on processing times.

Please make sure the shipping address is correct BEFORE you place your order. We cannot change the shipping address after the order is placed and must ship to the address on the receipt per Etsy's shipping policies. Life In Grain is not responsible for any returned shipments due to wrong address, zip code, city, or ANY other reason. The buyer will be responsible for any new shipping charges required. If the buyer refuses additional charges the item WILL NOT be re-shipped and the order WILL NOT be refunded.

If your order is lost in shipment, your order will be replaced. Your replacement order will be processed according to our current lead times. If the shipper (USPS, FedEx) indicates the package has been delivered, via tracking number, email, or any other method, the item WILL NOT be replaced.

If your order is damaged in shipment, please notify us right away. We only have a small amount of time to file a claim with the shipper. If you do not notify us within 3 days of the packaged being delivered, we will not replace the item.

International orders:
The shipping cost does not reflect any customs or duty fees you may incur. Buyer is responsible for any additional fees.

To fulfill your order, you must provide us with certain information (which you authorized Etsy to provide to us), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide us with additional personal information (for a custom order, for example)

We generally keep your data for the following time period: 7 years.

In such cases, we will delete your personal information unless we have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to ship my order?

All of our items are made to order and processing times vary throughout the year. Each item will have an estimated delivery date listed in the "Shipping & returns" section.

We always strive to meet this date, however it is just an estimate and may vary depending on current workload. If you need your item by a certain date, be sure to let us know! Sometimes we can accommodate certain requests if enough notice is given.

Can I see a proof before you carve my sign?

Absolutely! We provide a free design proof, upon request, with custom or personalized orders. Please note that due to the time involved in designing, we only provide design proofs for completed orders. You can make unlimited changes to your design if necessary.

How do I care for my sign?

We recommend indoor display for all of our wood items due to the nature of wood to warp, fade and/or decay outdoors. When displayed indoors, the only care necessary is an occasional dusting. No need for additional finishes to be applied. Please do not use chemical cleaners or wood polishes as this will negatively affect the finish of the wood.

If outdoor display is required, we can use a wood that is more suitable to the outdoors and apply a spar urethane finish to further protect the wood from the elements. This urethane finish would need to be re-applied annually. When choosing an outdoor location for display, an area that is out of the rain/snow and direct sunlight is best (under a porch overhang is ideal)

What if I give the wrong information or misspell something?

Check your spelling! We can't stress this enough!

If you realize that the wrong information was provided with the order, please notify us immediately. If we have not begun carving your order, we may still be able to change the design. If carving has begun, unfortunately there is nothing we can do to "fix"it. We can offer a discount on a replacement sign if you would like to correct the mistake.

We always double and triple check that the names and dates we carve match the information provided. However, it is possible for us to make mistakes as well. If we do, please let us know and we will get a replacement to you as soon as possible, free of charge.
