Absolutely stunning! They are so much more gorgeous in person rather than in the picture -plus the craftsmanship is amazing-. Yes, you'll probably have to finagle them a little bit to fit your ears, but everyones ears are different so you can't expect differently. Kathleen is one of the friendliest and helpful people I've met! She made sure I got them in time :]. Overall, I'd highly recommend this shop to anyone, and I'll definitely be back for more! Thank you!

What is Silver Filled Wire and Gold Filled Wire?

What is Silver Filled? : Silver Filled is a layer of .925 or better silver which is mechanically bonded to a brass core. Silver Filled is 1/10 or 10% by weight (.925 or better) silver. It is hundreds of times thicker than silver plating and has the same properties as Sterling Silver.
Like gold-filled wire, it promises to be an excellent cost effective compromise. The bonding process to coat the copper wire core with sterling silver is also more durable than silver plating. The thicker coating means it contains more silver than silver plate and thus has a higher perceived value.

The 0.925/40 designation for sterling silver filled wire means it is 1/40th sterling silver. The name "sterling silver filled wire" does not imply it is solid sterling silver but refers to the type of silver used to coat the core. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper hence the 0.925 designation.

According to Making Jewelry Now, gold-filled jewelry is made by applying an outer layer of gold either 10 carat (kt), 12 kt or 14 kt over a base metal form also known as gold wire. Heat and pressure are applied to the wire to bond the gold to the base metal, which is also gold in color. This base metal is a composite of several metals, typically, a durable brass alloy. This brass alloy is used to convert 24 kt gold into 14 kt and 14 kt into 10 kt. The exterior of the jewelry will be solid gold, thereby prohibiting the item from tarnishing like gold-plated jewelry.

Gold-filled jewelry is a suitable alternative if you cannot afford 100 percent, solid-gold jewelry. Gold-filled jewelry is tarnish-resistant, therefore minimizing possible skin irritation other gold alternatives typically cause, particularly gold-plated jewelry. Although gold-filled jewelry is precious enough for an heirloom piece, it can be damaged by using abrasive cleaning products or sharpened tools. Gold-filled jewelry should be stored in a cloth or plastic bag to avoid scratching.
