A Simple Life

I am Komyo Yugen.
I am a practitioner of zen and yoga. I live close to the sea in a small house in Sweden, with my dearest friend and life companion. There is much of a hermit in me. I love stones, trees and the ocean.

To me, art is a medium for healing and transformation, as essential for my spirit as breathing.

Jizo, the bodhisattva, has been an important part of my art since 2006 when I made my first Jizo sculptures during a 108 day long solitary retreat. I began sharing my Jizo expressions here at Lilla Jizo Shop in 2008, mainly in the shape of beach pottery and beach stones, which I came to call Healing Shards and Stones. Lilla Jizo is Swedish for Little Jizo.

A lot of different animals have also been painted upon my shards and stones. I love to spend time within the energies of these beings and through my work I connect to the healing quality of the natural world and all its phenomena, and I find a deep compassion for all within.
As a buddhist my goal is to save all sentient beings, and this is one way of doing it, to evoke a feeling of kindness towards all, and see how we all are similar and equal, and part of the same existence.

I went to art school for three years in the middle of the 90's. Since then, art in general, and painting in particular, has been my life blood and an ever ongoing journey. I paint mostly with acrylics but also sometimes with watercolours. I paint in many different size formats, from tiny to large paintings.

Apart from painting I use many other mediums too. I love to work with driftwood, stones, paper, textile and found objects. I am a photographer and writer as well.

I love the Japanese concepts of wabi sabi and zakka.
Nature is my greatest inspiration.
