What is Mojave Stone?
In the 1970’s, my dad and brothers mined a stone in the California Mojave Desert, brought it home to Missouri and made cabochons of it. They trademarked it MOJAVE STONE and MOJAVE ROYAL BLUE. It is a natural stone admixture of green and blue colored minerals swirled together in a quartz matrix in varied patterns. Pure copper, silver and gold are scattered through the stone. It has a hardness of 4.5-7.

About

Designing Unique Jewelry - The Winding Path

When I was young, my father became a rock-hound! He and my brothers staked a claim in the Mojave Desert and mined a stone they trademarked as 'Mojave Stone'. Dad loved to cut the stone and made beautiful cabochons. He had local silver smiths and my brother make settings. The stone was sold as finished jewelry or finished cabochons only.

Where was I while this was going on? In college, getting married, and being a navy wife. I always enjoyed wearing the jewelry!

I taught junior high, high school and interior design classes in college for several years. When we moved to California, I became an interior designer and started my own company. I collected beads in bowls and boxes and occasionally looked at them.

While looking for a hobby after my husband died, I discovered metal clay. It was fascinating to see the magic of making a piece of jewelry in clay, firing it in a kiln and producing silver jewelry. After my father died, I received his cabochons and my jewelry business began.

Now I live in Arizona and continue to hone my jewelry making skills using metal clay, polymer clay and other mediums. I would love to share my artfully designed original creations with you.
