Automotive Designer turns to her passion!

When I was a young girl, I would play house with my sister. I was always the one decorating and sewing whatever needed sewing to make it look pretty. As I got older, I’d make myself shirts and dresses with no guidance. I was also the one that would take apart walkie-talkies just to see how they worked, and other things too. I was so very mechanical and my father saw this in me…thus, guiding me in the direction of Automotive Design for college.

During my years as an automotive designer, I would make my own window treatments and bedding wherever I lived. Friends and family would come over and rave about what I made, claiming they were just as good, if not better, than what their houses had which that came from a local window treatment store which cost them a small fortune. Soon after, I making window treatments for family and friends. It was actually my sister that would always encourage me to do this for a living but I was just too busy with my automotive design living. I would say ‘maybe someday when I am a ‘stay at home mom’. As the years went by, I worked with Ford Motor Company here in Michigan and also abroad (England and Germany). It was in Germany where I fell in love with my daughter’s father, dated him and got married (don’t be too happy for me….it ended 12 years later). Although I liked being a ‘career’ woman, the hours were grueling and after my daughter was born in 2000, I decided to leave automotive design, with possibly going back when she began elementary school (age 5).

My first customer came shortly after I announced to my family that I am staying home with the baby, creating window treatments while she sleeps (never as easy as it sounds). My sister stepped up and said she had my first window treatment customer…her neighbor. She had a huge house. One room after another, she had me designing, fabricating and hanging her window treatments. Soon after that, the neighbors friends and family would be calling me for window treatments too…. And the ball just started rolling. When my daughter was 5, the original plan was to go back to automotive design. Well, you know that saying that ‘when you make a life plan…and God laughs’? That quote was for me. My girl got type 1 diabetes at age 5, which is an auto-immune disease that attacks your pancreas (that makes insulin). I won’t go into long details about it, other than to say it’s a horrible, challenging, life-long chronic illness brought on by no fault of her own (she’s not over weight, didn’t eat sweets, etc.). This disease completely rocked my world and for this reason, I chose to stay in the window treatment business and not go back into automotive design, which would have taken my attention away from keeping my daughter as healthy as possible. I would try my best to care for her and work from home, creating window treatments in my design studio and workroom.

Everything that has happened in my life is now making sense. I am truly where I am supposed to be. I am very blessed to have a wonderful daughter that seems to be doing well with her health and is a happy teenager… and I am doing what I love to do…creating custom window treatments!

I strive for 100% customer satisfaction. If you are unhappy, for any reason, please contact me within 5 days of receiving your order. I will do whatever I can to make you happy. I do not give refunds on custom orders...unless there was a mistake on my part, in which case I would fix your order or replace (at my discretion). So, please measure carefully as I am not responsible for wrong sizes due to wrong measurements.

If you are interested in a consultation, then I charge a $100 fee for this. This may include my sketching up your future window treatments over a digital picture of your windows, suggesting fabrics and their colors based on your input as to what your decorating style is. This may also include a CAD drawing of your windows measurements and the newly designed window treatments.

My pricing for window treatments is not only based on the time I spend in my workroom, but also for time such as consults, maintaining my sewing machines, steamers and irons, shopping for fabrics and drapery linings. There is a lot that goes in to making window treatments and lots of time other than the actual sewing. For most window treatments, it is basically an art to create them. No two treatments are the same and for this reason, lots of hours are spent in designing them. Many times a potential customer has had me going through hoops with obtaining an estimate for them (changing the size, details, quantity, fabric choice, etc.) and then I never hear from them. Therefore, please don't be offended when I suggest an online consultation purchase.

When you reach out to my shop, asking for a quote, and we provide you with one, along with much conversing back/forth, to the point that it has basically turned into a full blown consultation, and you then choose to move forward with an order then please know that you have indirectly received a complimentary consultation. Then, after you have placed your order, and you later choose to cancel this order, we will have the right to refund your payment minus any consultation fees of at a minimum of $100.


Please allow 4-6 weeks for custom window treatments. This time can change...sometimes it will be sooner and other times it may be longer. Upon giving you an estimate, I will tell you the lead time for your window treatments. This time is AFTER payment and/or fabric is received (example: if you pay for your treatments on Sept.1 and I don't receive your fabric until Sept.15, then your window treatment time of 3-6 weeks will begin after I receive the fabric, Sept.15).

I like to ship FedEx, as this is the most reliable and my products seem to be handled with care. FedEx typically takes 3-5 business days for delivery. If the shipping costs are very high with FedEx then I will use the USPS services, which is typically a little less but not as superior as FedEx. Please inform me if you will be out of town after you have placed your order. Shipping requires an INDIRECT SIGNATURE, meaning that someone needs to sign for it. If you are not home, the courier will leave info at your door on what to do the next business day. I have the right to change the shipping carrier at my discretion if I have underestimated the shipping cost. A handling fee of approx. $5-$7 is included in each order to compensate for my boxing, taping and other misc. shipping materials.

It is your responsibility to be sure that your shipping address is updated with your Etsy account. I do not ship to P.O. Box addresses.

If your order is over 72 inches, I may choose to add a hinge to your order so that it can ship at a reasonable shipping cost. If your order is hinged, it is the top mounting board (sometimes called a dust board) that will be hinged and a small piping will be applied to the top so that the hinge is hidden, after it is hung. When your order is hinged, I will also send you an instructional video on how to hang your order so that you can clearly understand how easy it is to hang it.

Sometimes fabrics are on backorder. I will inform you asap when this happens. Please understand that this may occur and it is out of my control.

When you are purchasing a window treatment from my shop, always provide your cell phone number so that I can add it to the shipping label OR if I need to text you about your order. If you choose to not provide your cell phone number then I can't guarantee that your order won't be be delayed. I have no interest in contacting your for any other reason than to ask questions about your order, to clarify any details of your order, or to enter a phone number for shipping purposes. Other than this, when your transaction is complete with my shop, I will never sell your information or call you for any reason.

Additional policies and FAQs

Please convo me for a specific lead time. Lead time is 'typically' 4-6 weeks. This begins when payment and/or materials are received, whichever is last. Upcoming holiday's, large jobs, back orders, and fabric flaws may lengthen lead times.

Jobs are completed on a first come, first serve basis. Jobs will be added to the queue after payment and/or fabric is received, whichever is last.

Rush orders are subject to a 50% up-charge on the labor. Your order will be taken out of the queue and fabricated after normal business hours, taking time away from my family, hence the reason for additional costs. The rush order will begin after your fabrics and/or payment has been received and is typically shipped one week later.

If our shop chooses to cancel your order or, if you wish to cancel your order, you will be charged for supplies ordered and/or used for labor already completed. This amount will be explained to you and deducted from your deposit/payment that was already made. You may also be charged for any consultations that were provided during our conversations of your order and this charge shall be a minimum of $100 and will be deducted from any refund that is due to you.

After placing your order, if we do not receive your necessary materials in a timely manner, we have the right to cancel your order. We understand that fabrics can be delayed due to chain supply issues so we ask that you provide us with updated information as to when your fabric will be shipped to our shop.

A refund may occur if our shop does not receive your materials in a timely manner. Most quotes are honored for 30 days, and we understand that in today's world there are many chain-supply issues with purchasing fabrics and for this reason, we ask that you communicate with us when there is a shipping issue with your fabric. If we don't hear from you on what your fabric choice is, we assume that you have not chosen one and after 3 months of not hearing from you, we may cancel your order and issue a refund. If you choose to move forward at a later date, a new updated quote will be sent to you.

If we choose to cancel your order after 180 days of you purchasing your order, we may refund the labor portion of your order only (minus a minimum of $100 for any consulting that we have provided for you), but we will NOT refund you for any taxes that you have paid. Your refund, after 180 days, will be sent to you via snail mail, and will be mailed within 30 days of notification. Note: all taxes that you pay with your order are collected by Etsy Inc. and Etsy Inc. will disperse/pay those taxes to the State in which your shipping address is noted with your Etsy profile account. Again, after 180 days, our shop does not personally refund any taxes that you have paid.

All fabrics should be rolled on a tube. If a fabric is flat-folded, I cannot guarantee the creases will come out when ironing.

In an attempt to create the highest quality product, every effort will be made to inspect for and cut around any flaws, if possible.

If you have questions about how a fabric will work for a specific treatment, please send a swatch of your fabric. I will be happy to assist you with your choices. However, it is ultimately 'your' responsibility to choose the best fabric.

No fabric is completely stable. All fabrics shrink and stretch due to yarn content, weather, humidity and construction. Loose, open weaves and stretchy fabrics are particularly susceptible to changes in length. I shall not be responsible to changes in length due to these reasons as described above.

All fabrics wear differently depending on the amount and type of usage, exposure to sunlight, moisture, humidity or dirt, and cleaning and pressing methods used. I shall not be held responsible for how a fabric wears now or in the future.

An extra 25% sur-charge may be incurred for fabrics that require special handling or additional steps in fabrication. Examples of extra fabrics requiring extra attention are: velvet's, lace, quilted fabrics, linen. If you are in doubt about your fabric, send me a swatch along with a pic of what style treatment you would like, so I can assess it.

There will be an additional labor charge of $15 per sheet (or drape) to use as treatments. Creases may not press out and the patterns may not be able to be matched at the selvage. Because of this, more sheets (or drapes) may be needed than you had originally planned.

If you have not purchased an order with my shop and you have sent me fabrics/materials, I am not responsible for your fabrics/materials after 30 days of receiving them. Your materials will be disposed of or will be shipped back to you at your expense, plus $50 for shipping and handling. After 30 days, a monthly storage fee of $10 will apply and you will be charged accordingly. Payment will be made via PayPal invoice and your materials will not be shipped back to you until payment is made.

All orders (drapery panels, valances, shades, etc.) will have a finished length of within 1" of your desired length (lengths can actually shorten due to some fabrics that shrink when ironing).

After creating your beautiful window treatments, I like to attach a picture(s) of your finished window treatments on my Etsy shop, website, Houzz account or my Facebook account. Sometimes these pics may be of what you sent me, in your own home....or they may be hung in my workroom. By placing an order with me you are giving me permission to post your pics.

Linings are meant to protect your fine fabrics. Lining may not be included in the price unless stated on the estimate. If you choose to not line your treatments, I am not responsible for any damage or fading that may occur to your treatments. The linings that are used are typically pale-ivory color (unless you have specifically requested a different color). I have found that pale ivory color is a perfect color, appearing not too white and not too creamy.

Blackout liners are actually white in color. Please be aware that where the rings or tape is sewn onto the back of the shade, there may be small amounts of light that will filter thru. The reason for this is that when the blackout lining is pierced with the sewing needle, it creates a small hole in the lining, and thus light will be peeking thru. We may take extra steps to ensure these small holes are covered, such as applying blackout Band-Aids. However, there may be times that the holes may still be visible. For this reason, we can't guarantee your shades will block the sun 100%. For drapery panels, there may be light peeking thru the stitch lines, which may be visible when the outside light is shining on the edge of the drapes.

All fabrics that have been sent for re-makes or alterations will be clean first. I am not responsible for existing damage, fading, creases, or stitch marks. I will try my best to go around them, but keep in mind that they may be visible on your finished treatments. New linings 'must' be used for re-makes.

I will tell you the yardage amount needed for your order. If you change your fabric, you are responsible for telling me so that we can give you a new estimate of yardage. If your fabric has a repeat to it, it is your responsibility to tell me what it is so it can be included in your yardage amount.

If there is insufficient yardage, there will be a charge of $25 for unrolling, inspecting, re-rolling, and re-figuring insufficient yardage.

All partial widths are charged as full widths.

Q: Can I order fabric samples?
I encourage you to request fabric samples in order to ensure that the colors, textures and overall aesthetics of the fabric(s) meets your needs. If I have a particular fabric in stock in my workroom, I would be happy to order the samples and have them shipped to you directly from my suppliers for a shipping fee. In this case, I will not be able to provide tracking, as most, if not all, of my supplier's ship samples via First Class Mail without tracking. If you choose not to order a sample, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FABRIC AND/OR COLOR NOT BEING WHAT YOU EXPECT.

Q: Can I send/order my own fabric?
I welcome customer's own material (COM). Please know that I am not responsible for any flaws that may be visible. When shipping your fabrics and/or trims, please ship to the following address:

Q: How do I get the proper measurements for my curtains?
If you're not sure about measuring, please send me a convo. The final length that is required will depend on a number of issues, including the type of header you're using and the width of your rod. Ideally, you would hang your rod fresh with each pair of new curtains in order to get them in exactly the right place. If this isn't possible, getting the correct measurements is vital. Again, please convo me if you have questions about how to measure. Sending a pic of your window is very helpful for me too.

Q: Can I have curtains made to fit my tall/wide windows?
I'm happy to design truly custom curtains that will fit your windows. Most panels that you see for sale on Etsy are essentially decorative. Curtains that are meant to be closed/used should be approximately double the width of your windows. If you would like a pair of functional curtains, please convo me to discuss the pricing for wide curtains. Similarly, I am happy to make curtains of a custom length, whether short or long. Please convo me to discuss your order so I can set up a custom listing for you.

Q: Do you make custom pillows:
Yes, I do. Convo me for a custom quote, including any details you would like, such as piping, cording zippers, insets, flanges, banding, etc. All pillows should be dry cleaned only, due to the fact that the fabrics used are typically 'drapery' fabrics. If I feel your fabric may fray, because of the quality and content it may be (such as silk or similar), then your pillow will be serged around its perimeter. Otherwise, your pillow will NOT be serged. This is left up to my discretion, unless otherwise requested. Serging is an extra detail and is additional labor. If you are sending me fabric, old or new, please be sure it is clean. I am not responsible for fabrics that have arrived with spots/stains on them and permanent creases due to the fabric being folded for a length of time. Permanent creases often are just that.... permanent. They often times have 'ring around the collar' on them, making them appear dirty. Please be sure your fabric is in perfect condition.

Q: Can I request an order to be refunded if I am not happy with it?
All orders are non-refundable UNLESS there was a mistake on my part, then I will gladly fix the problem or replace the item (my discretion). If I am unable to fix or replace your item/order, then I may you a refund minus the shipping and possibly materials.

Q: I made a mistake on the what do I do if my window treatment does not fit my window?
YOU are responsible for getting your measurements correct and sending them to me. I will gladly assist you with what measurements I will need if you send me a picture of your windows, including the ceiling and floor. You can convo me the pics or text them to me at 248-698-8288. If you would like me to re-work your order, you can ship it back to me (at your expense) and alterations will begin, for a fee.

Q: I have a lot of sun that comes in my window. What is the best fabric for curtains when dealing with lots of sun?
I recommend the following types of fabrics: Cotton, Linen, Polyester, Poly blends.

Q: Should I line my draperies?
I recommend all window treatments to be lined in drapery lining...unless sheers, that are meant to be unlined. Lining will make your treatments last for years, help protect them from the sun, possible rain when windows might be left open, and so forth. They also can make a nice fabric look wonderful, just by lining them.

Q: What is Interlining...and is it really needed?
Interlining is used (and recommended) on silks or similar. It is a flannel like material that is sandwiched between the silk and the back drapery lining, giving the silk something to 'cling' to and to hang it's best. I use a premium drapery lining (a step up from what is at the local stores).

Q: What is blackout lining?
Blackout lining is actually white (or ivory) in color and is considered a room darkening lining. It has a slightly stiff feel to the hand. When used for fabric shades, please be aware that where the rings or tape is sewn onto the back of the shade there may be small amounts of light that will filter thru. The reason for this is that when the blackout lining is pierced with the sewing needle, it creates a small hole in the lining, and thus light will be peeking thru. We take extra steps to ensure these small holes are covered. However, there may be times that your fabric is a certain quality and does not hide these holes very well. For this reason, we can claim that your window treatments that are blackout lined will be block out the light 99% (possibly 100%...but 99% is all we can promise).

Q: I love the look of 'relaxed' style roman shades. Are they easy to operate?
Yes, they are easy to operate but may require dressing each time they are raised. The reason for this depends on factors such as: type of fabric being used (is it a natural fiber? these tend to 'train' the fold's best), the length of the shade (large shades means that the tack points on the back are farther apart, thus more drooping will occur). We suggest that you have the droops spaced closer rather than far apart. Send up a pic of your window so we can suggest where the droops will be without compromising the look of the 'relaxed' style shade. We will even sketch this up for your so you can see how it will look over your own window.

Q: I don't have any idea on what type of curtains or valances would look good over my windows. Can you help me?
I sure can! But I can't give you a full-blown consultation and not expect to get paid for it. Consultations are $50 and you can find it on my Etsy shop. Now, if you simply have a question or two, that's a different story and I'd be happy to help you. Many people pick my brain so much that at the end of the day, I've not gotten an order out of it. Sometimes not even a " Thank you for all the time you've spent with me ". Now, I don't know about you, but I think that's just plain rude. Would you go to work and not punch in or swipe your i.d. card? Would you go into the office and not track your hours, working for free? I hardly think so. This is my job, and this is how I pay my bills.

Q: Do you accept rush orders?
I accept rush orders on a case-by-case basis. My current lead time is stated in my shop announcement, so anything that requires a quicker turnaround might require a rush order. This fee varies based on the size of your order and how quickly you need it. Paying for a rush order does not bump other customers from their places, rather, it puts me in the workroom creating your curtains at a time when I would otherwise be spending time with my family. Rush fees are typically 50% of your order.

Q: What kind of finishing is employed in your workroom?
My curtain panels are made according to Workroom Standards. Drapery specifications include: 2" to 3" rod pocket openings, double 4" blind-stitched hem with drapery weights and double 1"-1-1/2" side hems. If your fabric is lightweight, then the 4" double folded hem at the bottom may be either straight stitched or hand stitched. The fabric is cut with identical repeat placement in mind, meaning each of your panels will look exactly the same. If your fabric frays easily, serging will take place for a cleaner finish. These details provide a professionally finished product that hangs perfectly without having the wrong side/lining roll forward at the leading edge.

Q: Do you do hidden drapery tabs?
Yes. Hidden tabs are a nice way to hang curtain panels that are a step up from conventional rod pockets. Alas, this technique is a bit more labor intensive, so there will be an additional cost. Please convo me if you would like these.

Q: Will my window treatments be the EXACT size that I have planned & expecting?
Though we strive for your treatments to be exactly as planned, we know that not all fabrics cooperate. What we mean is this: some fabrics are very thin and fold nicely. These types of fabrics are easier to get their exact size. Other fabrics may be bulky or thick. These fabrics may reduce in size when folded over. The finished sizes might be as much as 1/2" (.50") smaller. Though we strive to account for this when fabricating, sometimes it is a guessing game as to how much fold-over the fabric will take up. Linen fabrics are another tricky one. When making curtains with a linen fabric, they may be as much as 1/2" longer than expected after hanging them. Linen stretches, a bit like when you wear a linen top or slacks....They stretch out and become bigger the longer you wear them. For this reason, we would like you to be aware of these features and the possibilities of what can occur. Other fabrics may shrink slightly when heat is applied (ironing). For this reason, your window treatments may be slightly smaller than expected and we are not held responsible for any size changes that may occur due to the reasons as explained above. Please tell of the details of your fabric before commuting to an order. See below for note:

Note: SOFT FOLDED SHADES (also called HOBBLED) may be longer than expect. The reason for this is the the bottom of the shade needs to be at least the same length as the folded portion, otherwise the sun will fade this section of the face fabric when in the raised position. Making the shades in increments of 5" is needed in order for them to stay true to their design and prevent sun fading.

Q: Can I send you my own fabric?
Yes, you can. Please be sure it is 54" wide drapery fabric. If it is not, convo me so I can tell you how much yardage you will need. When shipping your own fabric, please send it on a roll and not folded. If it is folded, keep in mind that there may be permanent creases that I am unable to iron/steam out due to whatever the fabric content is.


When we ask for your cell phone number, on the custom invoice for your order, it is for the purpose of communicating with you on the details of your order and possibly clarification. It is also needed for shipping purposes. We have no other interest in contacting you and we will not sell your phone number to any outside party.

When you send our shop pictures of your windows, whether they be 'before' or 'after' pictures, you are giving us permission to post these pictures onto our Etsy shop, our website, or our social media platforms. We never reveal your name, street address or any other personal details. We will only note the city and state of where the finished product resides.
