Herança chinesa viva, feita à mão
For over 25 years, Lion Dance has been at the very heart of my life. What began as a passion for performance gradually grew into a deep exploration of its culture, symbolism, and craftsmanship. My journey led me to spend more than 15 years living and training across Asia – from China and Hong Kong to Malaysia and Taiwan – where I studied not only the art of the dance itself, but also the rare and demanding craft of creating traditional lion and dragon heads.
In small workshops and with patient masters, I learned the old methods: how to bend bamboo or rattan by hand, how to layer and shape paper to form a structure that is both strong and light, how to paint details that carry spirit and life into each piece. These skills, once passed from master to disciple, remain the foundation of my work today.
When I founded my own workshop, it was with one clear vision: to preserve this extraordinary heritage while bringing it to a modern audience that values authenticity and artistry. Every lion and dragon head I create is handmade from start to finish. I use only bamboo or rattan and paper, never compromising with modern shortcuts. This process is long, requiring patience and precision, but it ensures that each creation carries the same soul and presence as those crafted generations ago.
What makes my work unique is not only the respect for tradition but also the attention to individuality. I do not produce standardized pieces — each lion and dragon head is designed and built as a bespoke creation, tailored to the needs of the troupe, school, or collector who commissions it. Whether it is the balance of the frame, the weight for performance, or the expression in the painted eyes, every detail is adjusted so the final piece becomes truly one of a kind.
Owning or performing with one of these creations is more than having a prop; it is holding a piece of living Chinese culture. It is a bridge between centuries of tradition and the energy of today’s performers.
My mission is simple: to honor the heritage I was entrusted with and to share it through unique, handcrafted works that celebrate the Lion Dance at its highest level. In every brushstroke, every curve of bamboo, every layer of paper, I strive to give life to lions and dragons that inspire respect, joy, and awe — just as they have for centuries.
