Handcrafted Jewelry Made with Aloha.

Growing up I was surrounded by art. Be it my mom teaching me to sew, or my dad teaching me to paint watercolors, oils or working with clay. As I came into adulthood I formed my own mode of expression: sewing, painting, and metal smithing. As with the tides, my styles and interests have changed depending on where I am in my life and the local influences.

I initially started my business, Liquid Silver Design, in 2004, in the front room of my home in Albuquerque. There I hand crafted custom bridal veils and jewelry for local brides. The business was then transferred to Etsy in 2009 as I shut down the store front to pursue my graduate school education.

Since that time a lot has changed. One of the biggest, being a move to Hawaii for work. Coming from a dry, high desert city to the an isolated island has been life changing. One of the changes has been to my art. To reflect those changes, I am changing my store a bit. The change goes along with the business name, Liquid Silver Design. It was a name I choose because of the fluidity of art and design and my penchant for silver. While there is an art from called “liquid silver,” the name here implies fluidity of design, rather than the technique.

As with the fluidity that surrounds me and the flux of change in my life, I have adapted my art as well. While walking on the local beaches near my home, I stumbled across some sea glass and sea shells. Having grown up in a desert landscape, I was struck by the beauty of the glass. Someone else’s trash became this delicately sculpted soft edge beauty, radiant in the sun’s warm embrace. It was then I decided to change my mood, setting out on the next artistic adventure. While I will still make some jewelry for weddings, my focus will be on the elements which surround me.

Since I have a full time job, this new venture is a way to share my new found love of the islands with you. Besides, I will always make jewelry and my friends can only handle to many gifts :) Hence, selling them. I have to fund my hobby somehow.

From the Land of Enchantment, to the Aloha state I say: Aloha, mahalo and a hui hou. (Hello, thank you, and see you again).

What can I say? I am a full time mom, full time employee, and full time artist. That's a lot of full times, so it means I don't have a lot of free time, but I do what I love, so I am happy :)
