Welcome to Lisa's Laces, the home for premier handmade tatted lace items. Wedding garters, ring bearer pillows, yarmulkas and much more. If you like what you see, I'm very happy. If you don't, please feel free to request a custom item. I love custom orders!

I'm adding items slowly, so please check back often!

Tatting is one of many methods for making lace. It is an unusually time-consuming fiber art, being made of thousands and thousands of tiny knots. It is usually made on very small size thread, which contributes to its fine, lacy quality. Tatting can also be identified by the picots or loops that are used both to decorate it and to connect the parts of a piece to each other. It is a very versatile art, being used for edgings, applique, and entire pieces.

I learned to make tatting from my older sister. She learned from her college roommate, who learned from her great-grandmother. My grandmother tatted, too--until she got married and had three small children during the Depression. Because this art has been handed down to me, I love to teach it, too.

I invent all my own patterns, too. I love spending time reading old (and new) tatting pattern books for inspiration. And then I make up my own patterns, a process that can take much longer than actually making the piece. But it means everything in my shop is unique.
