More than a hobby, a way of life

My shop began with the realization that I could not continue to craft without finding some way to find homes for my creations besides gifts for family and friends and filling storage boxes in my home.

I have crocheted since I was a child and have many fond memories sitting by my great-grandmother and watching her turn embroidery floss into intricate laced doilies and table runners. She began my craft "education" which was then expertly continued by my grandmother. We have spent countless hours together creating items for church bazaars and craft fairs and countless more working on our crochet techniques together.

I'm not sure when I began beading, I feel like I always have had beads around. After moving to the booming Northern Virginia area and getting married, I got the itch to bead once more. Stumbling upon a quaint bead store in Occoquan VA I saw a class flyer that announced an upcoming polymer clay beading class. I was hooked! Before moving to Missouri, I took several private classes with a very gifted polymer clay artisan.

As I have progressed in my polymer clay bead making, I've not been happy with the availability and/or price of materials available to use to make bracelets, necklaces, etc of my handmade beads. Chainmaille has always caught my eye and so here I am, in the process of teaching myself various chainmaille techniques that I may combine with my polymer clay in addition to using it as a separate medium.

Crafting is just a way of life for me, as I sit waiting in the Drs office I chastise myself for not bringing along some yarn to keep myself busy. Sitting idle is so hard to do!

All my childhood I was fortunate enough to watch my great grandmother and my grandmother craft in crochet, knit, plastic canvas and a variety of trinkets for church bazaars. My main craft areas are polymer clay, chainmaille and crochet.
