About

About the Dead Girl

"Nicole for as long as I have known you, you've always marched to the beat of a different drummer.... actually I don't think you hear anyone else's beat.... you make your own" - Rochelle Walters

Some know me as Nicole Garcia, some know me by my maiden name of Nicole Birmingham. However, to the horror and art world I am known as Living Dead Girl Nicole. The name came about not only because of my love for Rob Zombie but because of how much he has inspired me as an artist. His work has shown me that it's ok to break out of your shell and do what you love no matter how dark and spooky the genre is.

I'm the type of girl that if Zombies attack I want to join em not fight em. Some of my favorite things are horror movies, bats, Halloween, themed costume parties, Renaissance Faires, Muppets, Tattoos, shock rock, carnivals, freak shows, circuses, fairies, fantasy art, Universal Monsters and The Munsters. Pretty much if it's odd or macabre I will be drawn to it. I find beauty in all things dark, spooky or mythical. Aspects of that are reflected not only in my style but also in my art work.

When other little girls wanted to be ballerinas I wanted to be an artist.. and Elvira. I was always using my markers to make my Barbie dolls look "different". Then the amazing Jem and the Holograms came out and Barbie got kicked to the curb. As an adult I now realize I am a bit of Elvira and Jem morphed into one girl. Give me spooky with a side of glitter any day and I am a happy girl! I use to enter coloring contests so I could win tickets to circus shows! I was the little girl that wished she had a baby brother so the goblins would come and take him away and Jareth the goblin king would wisp me off to his Labyrinth.

Art has always been my passion and my escape. I like to do anything that gets my creative blood flowing. My biggest artistic inspiration is my father, Tom Birmingham who is not only an amazing artist but has always believed in me and my talent. He was showing me what shading was when other kids were still trying to color in the lines.

Other artists that inspire and amaze me: Jim Henson, Tim Burton, Rob Zombie, Brian Froud, Dave Hartman, Cleve Hall, Eric Pigors, J. Anthony Kosar and Chad Savage. It's artists like them that let our creepy little imaginations run free and embrace our dreams, fantasies and nightmares.

My artwork has won the 2nd Congressional Art Competition/Show, was featured in The Truth and Fantasies Gallery Exhibit and displayed at the American Academy of Art. It has been talked about in newspapers, magazines and featured on numerous websites online. It has also been used to design merch, art prints, banner logos etc for up and coming rock bands!

Being a huge horror movie and rock music fan I have given some of my fan art to people such as Rob & Sheri Moon Zombie, Sid Haig, George Romero, Linda Blair, Cassandra Peterson AKA Elvira, Henry Rollins, Scout Taylor Compton, Robert Englund, Kimberly Freeman, Constance Hall and Cleve Hall.

Additional policies and FAQs
I am always up for custom/commissioned orders!! Please feel free to contact me here through Etsy or use my Contact page on my art site: http://www.artworkbylivingdeadgirlnicole.com

For all Zombie Head Creations, original portraits (not prints) and Dead Girl Decay items that require me to order supplies to make......I ask the buyer to pay 1/2 down non refundable down payment to assure they are serious about their purchase. This is because these items are very time consuming to make. The Zombie heads are also very pricey to make. And when ordering items for Dead Girl Decay that I do not have in stock requires me to research and order the items. The buyer will pay the remaining 1/2 plus shipping when the item is completed and is ready to be shipped. If the buyer decides to cancel the order during the process of making the item or on completion of the item the down payment will not be refunded. It will pay for my time and supplies that I took to make the item. So only serious inquiries please.

When it comes to custom items I send photos to the buyer when I am done creating it. This allows for the buyer to let me know if anything needs to be changed or added. I ship the item once the buyer confirms they are happy with it :) Please see shipping policy regarding allowing extra time for arrival of your custom item.

If you commission me to replicate something that has already been sold in my shop or I have made in the past please allow for slight variances. Sometimes supplies need to be ordered to replicate the item and might not be from the same supplier. All pieces are created by hand, so no two items are identical which makes the item unique. That's the beauty of the products on Etsy!
