I'm absolutely thrilled with this stunning board that I ordered from Living Wood Design. I ordered two boards from this shop, and they are both so beautiful, with amazing grain and colour. I've already received many compliments on this board when I used it for entertaining. I was so impressed with the excellent service that I received, with the artisan working with me at every step to create the board that I had in mind, and the shipping was very fast. I will order many more boards from this wonderful shop! I've never been so impressed with an online order.

About

Giving new life to reclaimed & salvaged wood.

We’re passionate about creating unique designs from local salvaged and reclaimed hard woods at Living Wood Design.

Our sumptuous, handmade natural edge serving ware and rustic-modern furniture are all hand made by Andy in our studio near Huntsville, Ontario.
Every one of our original designs is hand crafted, carefully showcasing the wood’s natural beauty in the live edges, knot holes and the unique grain of each piece.

We use only salvaged locally sourced hardwoods from trees that have blown down or have to be taken down in the surrounding countryside or reclaimed from local barns.
We apply pure, all-natural and food safe tung oil to each piece by hand, allowing the extraordinary natural grain to shine through.

We enjoy designing the pieces together, and Andy is the craftsman. He has studied, taught and practiced fine woodworking and carving for over 12 years, and also apprenticed with a Swiss master carver for three years.
Soon after we married, we moved our family to Honduras for four years. We volunteered in schools, ran a fair trade store and started a non-profit organization working with community health and education. Andy supported our volunteer work by selling custom furniture pieces and carved signs for local businesses, working with reclaimed & salvaged tropical hardwoods and antique furniture.
He also trained a local Honduran as his apprentice, meaning that when we left, Enrique could continue with his own woodworking business. We still run a non-profit program working with indigenous Mayan and Garifuna groups in Honduras, where we collaborate with communities to build sustainable health and education programs. We donate a minimum of 10% from every sale of our work at Living Wood Design to our program in Honduras-you can see more at www.healthyvillages.org.

After Honduras we returned to Toronto, the city where we were raised, but soon after moved our family to the countryside. We started a small organic farm, striving to live a life that is more sustainable and closer to the land. You can read about our adventures at www.thisgoodearth.ca.

It's really important to us that we pass these values on to our children, and also that these values are consistent in our business.
We spend a lot of time in our organic garden, learning from nature, and Andy also spends many hours in his workshop, learning from the wood that he shapes.

We work together in the design process, striving to find new and exciting designs that will bring the natural beauty of the wood to life.
At Living Wood Design, we give each piece of wood a new life through an organic design process, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to shape our creations. We know that each piece will have a long life in your home, serving a practical use for your needs while always standing on its own as a unique example of woodcraft & design.

I've been working as a custom wood worker, carver and furniture maker for many years. After training in this field, I apprenticed with a Swiss master carver, where I honed my carving skills. I enjoy bringing wood to life through my art.

I co-design the pieces from our studio, take care of communication & sales, spend many hours with our kids growing food in our organic farm, and run our non-profit, www.healthyvillages.org. When our kids are older I'll return to teaching high school!
