About

Painting custom designed parasols one at a time.

I grew up and raised my family in Southern California. I've been an artist all of my life. I've dabbled in many mediums, but I found my niche one summer at Disneyland. I wanted to buy a hand painted parasol for my granddaughter, and wound up working there, painting parasols. I worked in New Orleans square for about 5 years, and learned to love painting for people. When we moved to Utah, I really missed my parasol job and all my customers. After we we lived in Utah for a year or so, my niece asked me to paint parasols for her wedding party. And that was the push that started me painting parasols again. I tried putting my parasols in different shops around town, but nothing much happened. After a disappointing start, someone mentioned that I try a new website called Etsy. Well, the rest is history.
Etsy has been a great way for me to meet and paint for people all over the world! When I worked at the magic kingdom, I would only be able to do very minimal designs because of time. Now I can do almost any design I, or a customer can dream up. I've painted fairies for a bus driver in Illinois and a custom fairy for Eden in Florida. Pigs for someone in the U.K. And carousel horses for a young lady in Australia. Between Poppins inspired parasols, polka dots, elephants, and unicorns, I have my hands full. But I'm having a great time! I do believe that art and design are a group process, where artists and their customers can work together to design something special. Even something as utilitarian as an umbrella has it's place as something that can enhance something as mundane as the rain. In fact, I'm told that many of my customers don't wait for the rain to use them! Whatever they're used for I'm happy to be able to make life a little more fun!
I've had a great time meeting and painting for my special customers. I get to help them with their weddings or design a special birthday present for a princess or a pirate. I've met a lot of wonderful people, and I'm grateful that I can share a special memory with them.
Etsy has helped me to expand my business in ways I could never have dreamed.
