About

Lockwood Lavender Farm

Getting notice of the end of my job of 14 years hit me like everyone else, what will I do next. In the middle of this I met my future husband in the travel section of a local book store; a city girl meets a fifth generation farmer. He encouraged me to be a part of the farm. So a year before we got married I started growing lavender for my wedding bouquet. One plant became four flats more.
We now grow 2000 plus lavender plants of 20 varieties and what is now the home of Lockwood Lavender Farm. The idea started ever so small, opening our farm to “You Pick” days, during which tourists and locals could be in the fields harvesting their own lavender to take home. I dried and collected the buds and in embarked on product development, label design, packaging and marketing. Now selling over 30 lavender and honey products (did I say we have beehives also).
People seemed to be delighted with the opportunity to come to the country and see the rows of lavender and be encouraged to relax and take time for themselves. This made me wonder if I could host a weekend event. A leap of faith resulted in a success beyond expectation. Now hosting the fifth annual Finger Lakes Lavender Festival we welcomed over 3000 visitors. The event features area artists, chefs, interactive workshops and presentations.
Our pick your own lavender has evolved into an agri-tourism business and community event. Offering an opportunity to shop our “Lavender Market” on the farm and education on basic beekeeping and growing and harvesting lavender.
