"I CONTNUE TO MAKE ART SO I CAN CONTINUE TO MAKE ART"

Welcome to my shop on Etsy. I specialize in "GENUINE SURF TUMBLED SEA GLASS" jewelry
Please come in and browse, if you are looking for sea glass jewelry done in a unique and different way, you have come to the right place. I have a large collection of Sea Glass from both the Pacific Coast and from the Seaham Bay area of England. I use ONLY GENUINE SURF TUMBLED Sea glass in my jewelry. Read below how you can tell "real" sea glass from man made tumbled craft glass, I have even seen colored resin passed of as "sea" or "beach glass" There are differences that only Mother Nature can produce, don't get fooled. I use only ..935 ARGENTIUM Sterling Silver. gold vermeil, or 14k gold filled., in my jewelry pieces and I think you will find that my sea glass designs are quite unique and one of a kind. ARGENTIUM Sterling Silver has a higher silver count of .935 compared to regular sterling at .925, Argentium Silver resists tarnish making it easier to care for and I use it exclusively. When i use gold vermeil, it is 14K gold over Argentium .935 Sterling Silver. I occasionally use 14K gold filled Wire also which has a 20% gold content.
Thanks for stopping by, if you have a piece of glass or special stone you would like made into a piece of jewelry I do quite a bit of custom work. I sell both here on Etsy and in "The Corner Store" in San Pedro, Ca., and and was chosen by a juried panel to be sold in the gift shop of the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach Ca..
The opening date on my Etsy store can be misleading as I had the store in 2009 but did not open it for business until August of 2012. Because I sell at venues other than Etsy, the sales figures are also misleading due to my sales at venues outside of Etsy.

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR SEA GLASS IS "GENIUINE SURF TUMBLED" or man made beach or sea glass'.
REAL SURF TUMBLED "SEA GLASS" will have each of these special charateristics..

1. Bubbles, .genuine surf tumbled glass contains bubble from the sea water that has permeated the glass over many, many years. It takes decades for the salt water to leech into the glass and produce those bubbles. That action is the direct cause of the next feature you need to look for....Crystallization or frostiness
2. Crystallization. Crystal like structure on the surface of "real" sea glass produces the frostiness that you see on real sea glass. It takes decades for the sea water to infiltrate the glass which pushes this crystalized formations to the top. This frostiness disappears when the glass is wet. You can get the effect of looking wet by using a small amount of mineral or essential oils on your glass. This does not hurt the glass and can be washed off with soap and water. Whet you will see on man made glass are scratches, not crystals that cause the frostiness
3. Roundness The rounder the glass the longer it has been in the ocean. it takes many many decades to turn glass that was once a bottle or container into a round shape. That is why most of the man made glass you see will be flatter with some rounded edges. For some reason most man made glass from a tumbler comes out in a triangular shape.
4. C shapes... on Genuine sea glass if you look closely you can see tiny little impressions shaped like the letter "C". This is caused by the years and years of sand grains pounding into the glass by the waves and the surf.

You can see these characteristics in the photos of many of my sea glass pieces on this site. If any of these four characteristics are missing or the glass shapes are too perfect you may want to take a closer look before you buy. Many places sell "Craft glass: made with a tumbler and broken glass and label it as "Sea/Beach Glass" . Know what you are buying.
Thanks for stopping by....Enjoy

Gorgous earrings that she custom made for me. They are exactly the color I needed. She checked in and sent a picture to me to make sure I liked them before she finished them. I will definitely be buying from this shop again! Great customer service!!

About

How I became "Lone Palm"

I knew very early on that I wanted to either be an artist or work with animals and I have been lucky enough to do both. I had a wonderful career as a veterinary professional for over 35 years, and I married a veterinarian. About 6 years ago I came down with a very serious illness, was bedridden for 3 years, had 15 major surgeries and 2 joint replacements, nearly lost my right leg and my life. When I was still recovering and learning how to walk all over again, my husbands mother brought me a book on making silver wire jewelry. That started me on the road to jewelry making, sitting in my hospital bed with books and wires all around me. I started taking metalsmithing classes and found that I really really liked jewelry design and creation. I met a wonderful woman named Peggy at a party while I was still learning to walk again. She noticed the jewelry I had on and before I knew it she had Invited me to be a "house" artist in her neighborhood store/coffee shop/ sundries shop/ meeting place/ art gallery, "The Corner Store" in San Pedro , has been my home base for 5 years now, and I love it there.
The name "Lone Palm" came from a landslide on the road behind my house,. Most of the road fell into the ocean except for one small island of earth with one little palm tree on it. I saw this palm tree as a metaphor for what I had been through: While everything was crumbling, doom and destruction predicted around it, that one little palm tree stood against all the odds and survived. That is how I felt after fighting for my life for more than 3 years and winning,
That is how Lone Palm Jewelry Studio's came to be named, because I can see the landslide from my studio window and it always reminds me that in life you have to be strong to survive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I request a different charm or sea creature be added to my purchase.

Yes, the charms are mostly interchangeable on wire framed items, more difficult when the item is soldered on

Can I request a custom order, or request a piece of sea glass or gemstone I already own be incorporated into a custom design.

Yes, I enjoy custom pieces and have even had clients who have drawn their own design, that I was then able to turn into the piece of jewelry they imagined for themselves
