About

Turning passion into production.

Welcome to my lab, in whatever current form it may be. Currently I reside in a very small room in the beautiful town of Santa Cruz. I've been told my room is about 8'x10', which I find the utmost irony in. Bunkered under a cheap IKEA loft bed, it is more necessity than luxury, and every night I pray it doesn't collapse and shatter the 5+ years worth of saving for the equipment beneath it.

Building "The Studio" will be my lifelong project. A combination of the assault on the senses, it will be a space dedicated to pushing and pursuing creative endeavors, mainly in the areas of photography and music, but if someone wants to build a kitchen in there, I'll cook you up something mean as well.

It's OK though, most of my photography happens outside. That's where I find myself and tap into the powerful and abundant inspiration of the Monterey Bay coastline. Rounding the bend towards 30 years of age, I don't find much interest in cubicles, nor organized business, nor sitting still for that matter. I want to be moving; exploring; drawn by curiosity; pursuing by inspiration. We live at a pretty pivotal moment in history. Chasing dead dreams and outsourcing the production to some super polluter factory in China, that is so turn of the century. We need new dreams, new methods, and new inspiration. Let me assist you with that process.

I find my church in the outdoors, beneath the dense canopy of the trees, and amidst the slapping of shorebreak to the face. It's a message that is so simple and pure, it's impossible to ignore. It's gospel is visual, appreciated with the eyes, absorbed with the soul. Let me give you a taste of it.

I would enjoy any questions or conversation you might have. While I don't quite support myself through photography at this moment, I hope to eventually achieve that and be heavily involved in travel, water, and landscape photography.

If you are here reading this, I thank you for your time, and know that I appreciate your patronage even if you are only just looking at the photos!

I picked up a camera around 10 years, started shooting seriously about 5 years ago, and have been doing it "professionally" for around 3 years. I am constantly looking to expand my equipment and approach, to keep my work both fresh and inspiring.

Hello and welcome to my shop, Look Don't Speak. My name is Andrew and I've been getting progressively deeper and deeper into the world of photography through the last ten years. I picked up my first serious camera in 2004 for a black and white photography class and have built from there. I currently shoot with a Nikon D610 on land, and a Nikon D7000 in water.

The pictures you see here are my world and are what makes me who I am. I have come to specialize in fine art landscape and surf photography, while occasionally shooting photos for clients in the form of engagement, wedding, and event photography.

I've been through school, worked at a start-up tech company, and through the dissatisfaction of both those paths, found myself back at square one, still shooting, only with higher grade equipment and the drive to take better and more immersive photos.

In studying psychology, I came across the theory of Flow, which has since been the core of my philosophy through my twenties. Photography has shown me a great connection to this mind state. Even though you are capturing it through a lens, it teaches you to not only actively appreciate the present moment, but to seek out more novel and invigorating experiences, which I believe to be the basis for a satisfactory, and well lived life.

I print all my photos through a local professional photo lab, as I've found they produce the highest quality product in any lab I've seen, but I can potentially ship it from another supplier, should it make more sense for shipping cost purposes.

I'm still drafting out the details for this shop, so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to send me a message.
