About LooselyWoman
Keep it loose.
I come from a long line of weird artist-types - particularly oddball illustrators. When I was a kid, my dad used to doodle on my homework. He would draw all kinds of strange monsters, weird pirates, and cartoon characters - especially on parent forms that he needed to sign. He got that from my grandfather, who evidently used to do the same!
All I ever wanted to be was an artist when I grew up. I still do! Since I was used to being around illustration, I started to draw. Mostly I drew copies of my puffy Disney VHS cases, and goofy still lifes of my stuffed animals and Polly Pockets. I eventually grew out of that (mostly), and moved on to get an art degree once I got to college. I experimented with many different mediums while I was in school - and I still do from time to time. It's always good to challenge yourself creatively. But after all that time spent trying to figure out who I was as an artist, I sort of just burned out.
Going from school to the real world is always hard, but it seems particularly difficult to find the pathway towards being a "successful" artist. It took me a good while to get back to the rhythm that drew me to art in the first place: making art is fun! It gives me so much sheer joy, a feeling that I had forgotten about in the hubbub of trying to make a living. Loosely Woman has grown out of the work I made when I recently came back to drawing, to that joyful, playful experience of making art for fun.
