Functional art, small size

I first touched clay when I was 12 years old and received a child's pottery wheel for Christmas. Fast forward to the year I turned 50, when I returned to clay and took my first pottery class at our local art museum. I began working in my home studio in 2014, making full size functional work. In 2018, looking for a way to keep my hands in clay over the long cold, northern Indiana winters, I transitioned to small forms made on a custom wheel created by a good friend of mine. Thousands of hours, blood, sweat and tears later, here I am, making more small functional works of art than full size vessels.

My current body of work is made from an exceptionally white and translucent throwing porcelain. It is fired at very high temperatures (over 2200° F) for 12-15 hours to achieve its trademark translucent, glossy appearance. The decoration on my pieces is inspired by the English porcelain manufacturers of the 1700 and 1800s as well as French barbotine ware and traditional Chinoiserie pieces.

What sets my work apart from other ceramic artists is the size of the work - most pieces in this collection are less than two inches tall. I work on a pottery wheel with a wheelhead that is 2 1/2 inches in diameter, using traditional pottery tools.

The potter John Reeve said that making pots is a vocation, not a skill or a trade, but a vocation. The soul that goes into the pot comes out of the pot.

Life is not full of BIG moments all the time. It is often the little things in life that are the most undervalued, but often most appreciated; sometimes it is the smile, thank you, kind words, or card that can be a true blessing.

When you hold a mug in your hands, place your favorite cookie on a plate, enjoy a nourishing bowl of soup in a handmade bowl, or hold a tiny pot in your hand, I hope it brings a smile to your face and helps you experience those small moments that make those BIG moments even more precious.

I'm a maker / owner working from my home studio in Northern Indiana. I began making full size work in 2013 and transitioned to small wares in the fall of 2018. My small work focuses on replicating ceramic vessels in a significantly smaller form.

Frequently asked questions
My piece arrived broken.....

Contact me within 3 days if there is a problem with your order.

If your order arrives in a million pieces, don't worry, I can help! If your piece arrives broken, here's what you do:

1. Immediately photograph the package and the broken piece(s)
2. Contact me ASAP to let me know about the mishap
3. Rest assured that a replacement will be on the way just as soon as possible!

All sales are final, but if you are truly unhappy with your order please contact me within 3 days and we will work something out.

I love my customers and want you to be thrilled with your purchase, but not claiming damage within 15 days will result in your loss.

I don't see the style / color that I want in the shop.....can I place a custom order?

Absolutely! I love working with customers to bring their vision to life!

Made to Order pieces generally ship in 2-3 weeks but can take longer depending on demand and complexity of the piece. I do aim to get things shipped to you faster, but sometimes I'm not pleased with a piece when it is finished and I will make it again to ensure you receive the highest quality piece possible.

Your happiness with the vessel is my top priority. I will remain in contact with you during the making process to ensure you like your custom piece.

Please note - Custom orders are not eligible for refunds or cancellation by the buyer.

Can I put my items in the dishwasher....are the glazes food safe?

Short answer, yes. Longer answer, sort of! Given the small nature of the work, I recommend you simply wash them by hand or wipe them with a damp cloth.

All of my work is made with food safe glazes, so they can definitely go in the dishwasher and microwave; however, any item with GOLD LUSTER detailing cannot go in the microwave and for its longevity should not go in the dishwasher.

But what if I still want to return it.....

Each piece is made one at a time by hand and it is very important to me that you are happy with your order. Please email me within 3 days of receipt if you are absolutely heartbroken and hate the vessel. We'll work something out.

But please note that this is a handmade product and there can be small differences between the presented photo and the item that you will receive - pieces sometimes look different in different light.

Due to the delicate nature of handmade ceramics, I CANNOT be responsible for broken pieces months down the line. Breakable things unfortunately sometimes break. Please use care.

Shipping costs will not be returned, and it is the buyer's responsibility to pay the return shipping.

Shipping.....how will it arrive?

All of my products are custom packaged and resembles a gift when it arrives. But, I also offer gift wrapping for a more special touch. Please let me know if you would like to include a hand written note. I am happy to include it with your gift.

All orders are packed with a recycle box, biodegradable paper, and peanuts and small bubble wrap or foam if necessary. While I strive to use 100% recyclable materials, sometimes the delicacy of your piece requires special wrapping to ensure it arrives to you safely. Please recycle what you are able to.

Domestic: All orders ship via USPS Priority Mail.

International: All orders ship via USPS Priority Mail International with a tracking number. You are responsible for customs fees and taxes.

How can I track my order?

As soon as your order has shipped you will receive an automatic email with tracking information. Please allow USPS 24-48 hours to scan and update the movement of the package, and be aware that once the package has been received by USPS, I can no longer control the amount of time it takes to arrive to you.
