Announcement   Growing up in an urban environment on the east coast I’ve always been drawn to natural textures and colors. As a child I craved large green spaces, sitting at my bedroom window imagining that beyond the brick and mortar I could see there were secret pockets of hidden forest and all I had to do was find them. When I got older I started spending the summers with my grandparents away from the city. During this time I fell in love with insects and birds and became enamored with drawing them. I would spend hours poring over old Audubon nature guides and memorizing the names of the different birds that would show up in my grandmother’s garden. Later I moved west on my own and became surrounded by the ruggedness of the western frontier realizing I’ve finally discovered the secret pockets of forest that I longed for as a child.

Now I find myself trying to recapture the sense of strangeness and wonder I felt as a small child watching birds and naming them for the first time. Making up my own imagined creatures, the lost ornithology of my childhood.
