About

Hang a Story – Louise Hang Boutique

A Long Story: Once upon a time, there was a girl who loved fairy-tales. She had a great imagination and used to recreate their imagery world. She redrew the black and white illustrations with color pencils, dressed as a princess in her mother’s attire and performed imaginary plays with her mates. When she grew a little older she discovered historical books and still loved historical clothing. She could not have it for herself so she decided making miniature versions for dolls. One day she saw Louise standing in a shop window but the doll was a fortune and her parents could not afford it. Having a Barbie doll was her dream and she followed it. She started raising the money herself recycling waste wrapping while she daily visited the shop to assure her doll was there waiting. And like every fairy-tale this had a happy end too. I finally took Louise in hands and made a collection of haute couture dresses for her.

The Products: I can hang all in one thread which makes my shop cohesive – the idea for the one is conceived from the other. I was thinking of making doll hangers for the historical clothing so connoisseurs who bought it could store it when the idea for padded hangers stepped into the spotlight. These are the two initial product lines in my Etsy shop so the name has reflected and commemorated it.

The Materials: Textile and thread are the basic that I use. Museum-value costumes I sew from 100% natural fabrics on authentic patterns for the recreated period. The rest I make from recycled spare, waste or worn out clothing. For decoration and padding I choose harmless-to-textile materials. Every fabric has its beauty and a place in a product; it is me who discovers it. When I look at a piece I instantly imagine the costume out of it, or recognize the perfect one for an item right when I see it.

The Process: My products are entirely handmade – from scratch to the final touch. I never use a sewing machine for any of the processes so it takes longer to hand sew them. A hanger I make for a day; a costume – for a week. Sometimes the idea strikes first, other time a brainstorming conceives it. Then they come choosing and supplying with materials, designing and making the patterns, cutting and sewing, lining, padding, decorating if involved. My newborn baby I photograph and list on Etsy.

The Effort: All processes are time-consuming. I never know how much the conceptual part is going to take but it brings butterflies in the stomach. Each stitch and every fabric have individual voices and can behave unexpectedly. Some materials work out fluently, others are tough by nature but there always comes a point when sewing turns to be a rhythmic melody. The technical part can also be pleasure with the organization. I love it all even the most difficult one – the price naming.

A Happy End: I believe all Etsyans create with love. The unique way I recreate mine in my works, and the special story behind is what make me different. Each of them is a piece of art and comes with history. You can see my first doll costumes in the photos above and read what they tell, either funny or sad, in my blog. I am happy when a new piece of me is born. I am satisfied when I share it with others. And when someone loves it, and wants to take it home or gift it to another I am rewarded.
