Usar materiais reciclados torna o processo divertido e interessante, pois cada peça exige muita reflexão e tempo, e o melhor de tudo, elas nunca são exatamente iguais! Milena costura há mais de 13 anos, levando seu amor e paixão adiante, mesmo em tempos difíceis. Originária da antiga Iugoslávia, cresci em uma pequena fazenda, cercada por pessoas trabalhadoras e com grande apreço por tudo que é feito à mão, cultivado em casa, feito em casa e tradicional. Todos os homens e mulheres da minha família eram capazes de fazer algum tipo de artesanato para criar peças que desejavam ou simplesmente precisavam para o dia a dia. Meu pai adorava fazer cestos com galhos de salgueiro para colher vegetais frescos de todos os tipos. Ou carregar milho recém-colhido pelos campos até em casa para armazená-lo durante o inverno. Trabalhar em um milharal, ou em qualquer campo, sempre foi um momento divertido com a família. Estender cobertores no chão para desfrutar de comida caseira e pães frescos era a melhor época do ano! Lembro-me de ajudar meu pai muitas vezes a trançar cestos e do cheiro de galhos de salgueiro recém-cortados e preparados. Ele também fazia cestos para os nossos vizinhos. Além de cuidar da casa e da vida na aldeia, minha mãe era uma tricoteira incrível! Ela tricotava qualquer coisa só de olhar para ela, e era muito boa em tricotar no escuro. Eu sempre achei isso muito legal e ela dizia que conseguia sentir os pontos sob os dedos. Essa habilidade provou ser muito útil durante a guerra civil no meu país, quando acender as luzes em casa não era possível ou seria uma grande imprudência. Só o fogo do fogão a lenha iluminava nossa casa e a mantinha aquecida e aconchegante.

Using recycled materials makes it fun and interesting as each piece requires a lot of thought and time, and best of all, they are never exactly alike! Milena has been sewing for over 13 years taking her love and passion through some hard times. Originally from former Yugoslavia, I grew up on a small village farm surrounded by hardworking people, and appreciation for anything handmade, homegrown, homecooked and tradition. Every woman and man in my immediate family was able to do some kind of hand crafts to create pieces they desired, or simply needed for every day life. My dad loved to make baskets out of willow branches, to gather freshly harvested vegetables of all sorts. Or carrying freshly picked corn through the corn fields and home for storage, for winter times. Working in a corn field, or any field, was always a fun time with the family. Spreading blankets on the ground to enjoy home prepared foods and freshly baked breads was the best time ever! I remember helping my dad many times weaving those baskets and, the smell of freshly cut and prepared willow branches He made baskets for our neighbours as well. Besides taking care of the house and village life, my mom was an amazing knitter! She would knit anything from just simply seeing it, and she was very good at knitting in the dark. I always thought that was so cool and, she said she was simply just able to feel the stiches under her fingers. That skill proved to be a very useful one during the civil war in my home country, when turning on lights in the house wasn't either possible or would be very foolish. When only fire in a wooden stove would brighten up our home and keep it warm and cosy.
