Frequently asked questions
Do you guarantee functionality of what you sell?
With multiple decades of experience as both a professional and hobbyist photographer and collector, I can only do my best to describe to the best of my ability what I can see and test for, and I will provide you with whatever details I can.
With vintage photographic gear, there is no warranty provided, and I simply can not offer any guarantee that the item you buy will meet your expectations or function exactly as it was designed to do. What I offer for sale here is a collectable item, that may be fully functional, but is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty. YOU are the expert on whether the item is suited for your purpose as a collectable item.
Do you test what you sell?
The short answer is yes. How thoroughly I test it is dependant on a number of factors, and I will describe in detail what testing was done, and what those results were for what specific testing I could do. That may or may not mean that I tested every possible scenario, for every possible combination of functionality. If it isn't mentioned in detail within the listing, please don't assume a test was done. I may not have had the tools, materials, or batteries/bodies/lenses/etc., to confirm if something works properly or fails.
Do you do repairs - or - do you repair/refurbish what you sell?
Occasionally I may effect a cosmetic related repair on a for-sale item, but it will always be noted in detail in the listing text. It may be as simple as recovering a camera body or replacing a battery cover, or rarely, something like a replaced advance lever - but I don't sell items that I've done major or internal repairs on. You are buying parts of my personal collection or current gear bag, not items that are purchased for resale. There may be exceptions for rare or uncommon items to retain value, but those will also be clearly noted.
I'm not a trained repair technician, and I prefer not to sell items that I couldn't warranty for expert workmanship. It's not something I'd ever do as a service, or as a means to produce a salable item.
Gift wrapping and packaging
What I sell on Etsy.com are items from my personal collection of photographic and related gear that I might be reorganizing or 'thinning out' or changing my area of interest in, and have chosen to sell some portion of it for that purpose. I don't buy items with the intent to resell them or to produce income as a retailer. With that in mind, I simply won't have any of the materials necessary for providing gift wrapped items, nor do I wish to keep wrapping or gifting materials on hand. Sorry, but It's not something I'm prepared to offer as an additional service.
Custom and personalized orders
Although I won't be able to become a personal shopper for something I'm not already selling, or offer a 'custom product' per-se, I may be able to bundle items together, rework a camera to have a new covering, or under some instances, modify an existing bundle and break it down into individual pieces.
If your customization involves something already listed, please make sure to reference which item it is, and what changes you're interested in. I can't promise that I'll be able to accommodate every request, but feel free to ask.
