My path to vintage
Who am I? I am a vintage country goddess. Vintage is the key word here. Back in the 50's, riding in the back of our families' fire-engine red Ford station wagon, every August on the way to Yellowstone National Park, I would dream and create exciting fantastical adventures... With myself as the heroine, of course. In the caves along the rivers I imagined finding treasures and exotic lost worlds, becoming their beloved Goddess dressed in luminous slinky dresses and radiant jewels (you've seen the movies, right??) Over the years I did travel to exotic places and my love of the history embodied in wonderful works of ancient artifacts, such as Tibet, Ireland and India, was born.
Over the last 40 years a parallel love was evolving in my admiration of vintage collectibles and handicrafts, particularly those created and worshiped by women in this country. My sister Lyn had a hand in this being an avid antique-r and we continue to exalt in our 'hunt for treasures'. I found in these vintage items a much deeper understanding and sense of the incredible history of the USA. In exploring the art and artisans who created costume jewelry, I found out how the compassionate idea of giving shelter to the poor, the exploited, the destitute from other countries brought unlimited creative genius here or what it must have been like to be in a country at war with limited resources, or to be a woman without the vote. I still see each piece of costume jewelry from the 30's as a tiny hand wrought sculpture to bring a smile during the depression or in the 40's as mood-lifter during WW2 or a out-of-this-world conversation novelty at the cocktails parties of the 50's. I saw amazing creativity and a place for women to show independent artistry in the marvelous history of women's hats. The aprons women created in the 50's are like forerunners of the psychedelic posters of the 60's, where did that come from? Purses and compacts and boxes (why do women loooove boxes??), perhaps the Jungian expressions of our woman's jewel case? I also love fur, a sensual childhood experience of having a beaver muff and hat clinched that, and though I would never buy a new fur, I do offer some vintage fur hats, coats, collars, chokers and muffs. Silk satin lingerie... do I even have to go there? Love, love love...
So in my ETSY store: LUMINOUS LADY VINTAGE will offer you the fruits of this passionate search for the shining vintage garments and treasures of this world that have a unique romantic allure and a wedding wizard section. My other vintage shop in Etsy: BEE BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE show cases a delicious display of vintage suits, coats and dresses from the 20's thru the 80's and thematic vintage garments such as Boho Exotic, Mod, Western, Asian, WW2 and so forth. At my art store; SHANGRI-LA TREASURES and Thankas, you can find the meditation iconic treasures to nurture the more exotic, luminous spiritual world in your heart.
I have some more stories about my path to vintage on my blog: VintageTreasureQuest.com
In my younger years I already loved vintage -- cars. The story is here on my blog:
Now I am a 'vintage' country goddess myself, inspired to share my passion and bring you the finest vintage treasures. Learn more about me by reading "My Story" on this site and visit my Vintage Treasure Quest blog http://VintageTreasureQuest.com
I've retired from my day job as a professor of Asian Philosophy to be reborn as a fashion photographer for Luminous Lady Vintage. I love the challenges of photographing clothing and accessories and the playfulness of photographing models.
Picker And Model
My sister Lyn keeps her eyes open for vintage fashion treasures and picks for the shop. We both collect vintage costume jewelry and go annually to the Antique Expo and on other treasure travel quests. Sometimes she doubles as a model for the shop.
My model Cami is a total vintage lover, from her 1950s DeSoto car to her everyday wear. When she completed her university program here she was named "President's Scholar". Beauty, brains, fashion sense and mistress of vintage makeup and hair.
My model Justine was a natural -- so expressive, and even MY camera loved her. Then she graduated from the local university and left for law school. I seem to pick beautiful models who are also very smart (and sassy;-)
Assistant And Model
Jane is a dear friend and steps in to help me as a creative spirited assistant when and where ever I need it: wardrobe changer, model and adviser. She laughs a lot and keeps life radiant.
Jeri is a dear friend who stepped up to the plate and modeled for me when I needed to get my winter coats listed. She was camera shy but David lured her into relaxing and having a great time playing dress up, so I bet she'll be back for more!
Sarah is my newest model. A Myrna Loy look alike with an enigmatic smile and soulful expressions. The vintage clothes from every era adore her figure and even the smallest fit without a corset! We lunch and she advises this Luddite on social media.

Additional policies and FAQs
NOS or New Old Stock: This means I had the best of luck to find old stock that's
been hidden away for years and the stock cannot be put
out in the store because that store no longer exists. The
item still has its original tags/item has never been worn.
If there is something amiss, I'll mention it.
MINT: And not Mint Julep. Mint is where the item is coming to
you in amazing condition. It might be new or never worn
but I cannot guarantee that. The most this item will need is
a dry cleaning before wearing since it was stored for years
NEAR NEW: Yes. It is almost new. Most likely it was worn once and
though looks brand new, it might have one thing amiss.
A button is loose, a seam is a little wonky, a rhinestone has
dulled, etc. You get the picture, right?
EXCELLENT: And it should be. This item was worn, once perhaps twice
maybe it was worn for 4 years but the lady took great care
of keeping it excellent condition. There might be a little dirt
possibly a missing belt, a few stitches, it was altered, a
rhinestone or two, heel taps will need to be replaced.
This item will need minimal attention to wear it again, it
will need a dry cleaning to perk her up again.
GOOD: She's seen better days but the party isn't out of her yet!
And that is how I see Good vintage. It will need some
attention and a little money spent on her to fix the old gal
back up, but trust me, she's gonna knock 'em dead! She'll
need some stitch work, dry cleaning, spot cleaning, repairs,
maybe some dye work on a few areas. The old gal is still
kicking so don't give up on her yet.
TLC: I have no talent or skill to help this poor thing out but I do
know others do so for a very low price, if you have the time
here is the old thing ready to be reworked, remade, used
for bits and pieces.
