Announcement I've been in the candle kitchen working my wizardry to get ready for Fall craft fairs. If you live in Rhode Island or Eastern Mass, you're likely to find a show near you. You'll find the schedule on my website or Facebook events. Happy sniffing!

I love this stuff - roll a little on my pulse points before bed and it helps relax me and makes it easier to fall asleep. The scent is wonderful - its not as strong as lavender oil alone. Whatever it is mixed with makes for a wonderful combination!

So much better than those nasty chemicals you buy at the store. Smells great, repels the bugs, and even makes your skin soft too!
Following a dream: You'll need a map!
While life has led me to far horizons, my need for native soil grows stronger as time passes. It's an atavistic pull. College, work, adventure, and marriage to a Navy Chief have seen me as far as Florence, Italy from my native Amherst, Virginia. I currently make my home in Rhode Island, but as a military wife retain my Virginia domicile, grateful for the congressional act that allows me to do so. Following a degree in Architecture from Virginia Tech, I worked in the textile industry for many years before deciding to turn a beloved hobby into a business of my own.
Working in my converted garage, I now make soy candles and natural skin care products from my home-based candle kitchen. As a nod to my beloved Virginia, my crafty creative mom and my much-missed farm-boy dad, I named my business Virginia Aromatics Limited Company. I created Virginia Aromatics to protect my trademarked Lux Aromatica brand as part of my map. Starting the business in late 2008 was the right move at the right time.
It came about from the dream of a future lavender farm to be in the rolling hills of Virginia, a dream on hold until my husband's military retirement. With a deployed spouse there were a lot of hours to fill, so I began to create exactly the sort of products we would like to sell at our farm store, with a portable business format. It's been a labor of love, mapped out with great care and joyful devotion. I had products in new stores within three weeks the 600 mile move from Norfolk to Newport.
All Lux Aromatica products are scented with essential oils from plants. There are no artificial fragrance ingredients in my candle kitchen, and my favorite new item is a salve that I've been formulating for two years. It was amazingly popular as a whipped body butter, but I wanted a smoother, creamier consistency and finally got it just right. It's a natural alternative to petroleum jelly, good for gardener's hands, as a lip gloss, night facial cream, elbow moisturizer, makeup remover or for healing tattoos. I've had customers use it for psoriasis, and I sell out at craft fairs in New England.
Lux Aromatica began with a pipeline of products to be introduced over a number of years, as any business must in order to sustain itself. That pipeline is part of the map. So are the work experiences and gratefully received mentoring that inspire the birth of a business. Then come the hundreds of hours to build the business.
The map must be fluid. Based on growth, we may eventually adjust our goals with the lavender farm in order to keep up with demand for the fragrance products. We're okay with that. Next stop, where in the world? When will our map lead us back to Virginia? We work and wait and shape our map to see where it leads!
As a trained architect, painter in oils, photographer and chandler, I've only ever envisioned a career in art. Fragrance has become my medium and wax is its vehicle. I strive to bring you sophisticated, interesting fragrances that free the senses.
