GC & Me

My Ocean Art GC Studio story begins in the caribean ... Curacao. Where my husband and I lived with our three sons for ten years. A beautiful island with beautiful people and a inspiring and creative lifestyle. The island is a habitat for a lot of creative artists and their creations which tell the story of this pearl in the caribean Chichi's, Selma, Nena Sanchez …

As a mother and woman, being creative is in my nature. handmade presents, beautiful jewelry with gems or organize never-to-forget birthday parties for our boys were a piece of cake. I started selling my gem jewelry at school when I was 13 years old and helped a lot of friends decorating their homes and gardens later on.

So next to my work I was always busy making things beautiful. And when we had to move abroad once again, because of my husband who works in the Royal Dutch Navy ... a whole new challenge began. We had a great time, it was hard work and long days but the nature on this island made everything feel like a feast. Unfortunately bad things happen ... and one weekend when we were awaiting the arrival of hurricane Thomas, I suffered a severe degenerating stroke. Within 48 hours the whole right side of my body was paralyzed. The hospital where I was admitted on Monday morning was flooded within 1,5 hours after our arrival. Hurricane Thomas had arrived. Everybody was trying to help the patients on the ground floor and doctors and staff were not able to reach the hospital. It took another day before I received the right medication. By then it was too late. Too much brain cells had died and I was no longer a fully functioning person. Paralyzed, my speech was absent ... it was too much to handle. But coming from Rotterdam ... you dust yourself off (as far as I could) and try again. So after being hospitalized for a while ... I started rehabilitating. Worked my butt off and after a year attending sessions with a multi disciplinary team in the clinic I walked out instead of wheeled out of the clinic.

At home we picked up the pieces and started fresh. My mom send me some craft tools and friends brought me beautiful pieces of driftwood and shells ... and my story for my GC studio began. Working on my fine motor skills with pyrography ... drilling seaglass ... it brought me so much joy and reassured me I could learn anything. Even with a disabled body.

Gifts, home decoration ... our house was filled to the rooftop and my friends loved getting handmade presents. Then my husband told me to start selling it ... not being quite sure that people who didn't know me would like my work ... it took a while before I was on my first christmas fair. Selling my gorgeous creations. And it worked ... a local exclusive souvenirshop came across my work and asked me to start working for them. So happy to be back ... and so grateful to be working with all these treasures from the sea.

I never stopped ... now we've moved back to the Netherlands ... where we live near the coast ... so the sea and the beach are close by ... and my work continues.

Hope you will follow me on my Etsy shop ... thank you for reading my story.

As I stroll along all I see ... Beautiful treasures casted from sea
Wind and water sailed them to me ... To lie in shingle by the sea
Majestic glass and silver tree ... May my skilled hands forever set you free

Now you pretty much know all about GC & Me

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Lynn puts a lot of love and care into creating her art ... she cannot always guarantee a 'flawless finish' but she always tries her best to reduce the amount of interference from environmental elements. Slight "imperfections" are part of the uniqueness and beauty of the piece.

How to take care:

Lynn uses a high quality artist's resin that has UV protection so will not yellow, crack, or cloud over time. To keep your original resin painting looking gorgeous, do not hang in direct sunlight and avoid touching the surface.

To clean your painting, spray with a gentle glass cleaner and wipe with a soft micro fiber cloth. Resin will not crack, but it can scratch, so please handle with care.
