Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders
Of course! That is the beauty of a handcrafted piece. I primarily showcase standard sizes on my webshop, but if you need a different size, just send me a message so we can explore the possibilities together.
Sizing details
The sizing will be in centimeters and inches.
Gift wrapping and packaging
I pack my handmade jewellery in jewellery boxes or small bags. I will not use a new box for each item from an environmental point of view. For example, a necklace and earrings will go together in a jewellery box. Are they individual gifts? Make sure you indicate this when placing the order.
Care instructions
The jewellery is made to shine/sparkle. If you follow these tips, they make sure you keep enjoying your jewellery for a very long time.
Try to avoid contact with care products such as, day cream, body lotion, perfume and hair products.
Water is not an issue, however salty water and/or water containing chlorine can have a long term effect. Every once in a while should not be a problem, just try to avoid in on the daily.
Avoid contact with cleaning products. This is obviously not beneficial to our skin, let alone our jewellery.
Every jewellery piece becomes a bit duller over time or changes color a bit. This is due to the pH value of your skin. Every skin is different. You can polish your pieces with a silver cloth or any other soft fabric. There are also jewellery cleaning products available to purchase. Always read the instructions before using those and keep your gems in mind.
What is gold filled and sterling silver?
Gold filled means there’s a gold layer that has been attached to the base metal by high heat and pressure. The difference between cold plated is that there’s a larger quantity of gold attached to the base metal, which prevents it from detaching or fading/discoloration. This however can occur with gold plated jewellery. Gold filled jewellery is made to last.
Sterling silver consists of 92.5% silver and 7,5% another metal (often copper). This alloy is often used in jewellery making, because pure silver is too soft to work with.
There is a big difference between sterling silver made jewellery and sterling plated. Plated pieces only have a thin layer of silver attached to the base metal. This layer can detach easily and cause discoloration. That is why MAIA jewellery only uses sterling silver instead of just silver plating to be able to provide the best quality products.
What is the best way to put on the hoop earrings?
Putting on hoop earrings can be a challenge for some. Thankfully, practise makes perfect! To help you out a bit, check out these steps.
1. You can open your hoop earring by pulling the hoop aside (to both sides).
2. After you’ve bended the hoop aside a bit, you can stick the pin into your pierced earlobe/ear hole(klinkt zo gek) kijk maar wat je hier fijner vindt.
3. Move the pin back towards the hoop and push it back into the opening. Be careful not to force it. A soft push and pull to make sure it is closed is ok.
never pull the hoop apart (only sideway motion), this can cause the metal to bend out of shape or even break eventually.
You can keep the earrings in for weeks, months even, so you don’t have to repeat the process often.
Shipping
All MAIA Jewellery products are handcrafted, which takes time, but I always try my best to get your treasures to you as soon as possible. You can expect your order to be shipped out in 3-5 business days, counted from the day your order is placed. Most of the pieces fit through your letterbox. This is not only more sustainable but also more practical. That because you don’t have to stay home to wait for your order to arrive.
Help! My piece/jewellery broke!
Obviously that is not supposed to happen, however it can occur due to a manufacturing defect. Handcrafted pieces are unique, so each finish is unique as well. If your jewellery breaks within two weeks of purchase due to a manufacturing defect, it will be repaired for free.
Did your piece break for a different reason, please contact me. We can then look for a suitable solution together. My goal is to make durable pieces, to be enjoyed for a long time, repair work can sometimes be part of that process.
Shipping
Shipping in the Netherlands will be twice a week. For international orders, I ship once a week, so I can combine all orders to ship together with Deutsche Post. This is way cheaper than the shipping companies we have in the Netherlands, so it may take a couple of days longer before I send it to you, however the shipping costs are much lower for you! :)
