Marcos Bautista

I am native of a small town in the Central Valleys region of Oaxaca, Mexico--Teotitlán del Valle; the name comes from the indigenous Mexican language Nahuatl, meaning "Land of the Gods." I was born into a tradition of weaving which has been passed along through the generations for centuries--in my community we are masters of our craft, proud of our culture and artistic talent.

My goal in forming my company MBWeavings is to be able to share the beauty and tradition of my culture by introducing the traditional Zapotec weavings of my hometown to a much greater audience than ever before. I am now living in the United States, taking my work to expositions and craft fairs.

All of the items in my shop are made by me or my family and friends. When you buy from my shop, you are buying directly from the source! Each of us puts our own unique spin on designs inspired by traditional Zapotec motifs, nature, and modern lifestyles. Your purchase helps by allowing my family, friends and I to support ourselves creating the art that we love, and to be able to invest in the future of our community and preserve our culture and traditions for generations to come.
