One of the most beautiful pieces of kimono silk I have seen. The hand-painted flowers are exquisite, and the color and matching fringe are perfect. I almost decided to keep it instead of giving as a gift. The workmanship on this scarf is excellent. It took me a few seconds before I would see the same.

SILK SHAWLS & SCARVES: My shawls and scarves are sewn from vintage Kimono silk. My knowledge of the Japanese Kimono is limited to my appreciation of the beauty of the kimono as a whole, and of the silk itself—the intricate designs, amazing weaves, and beautiful l color combinations are endless.

Shawls are made with two different but complimentary sides, and most have a coordinating fringe. The scarves show the same fabric on both sides, sometimes with fringe.

FRINGE: I’m a fringe addict. Until just recently I was the mindset to “add fringe to everything!” It’s hard for me to resist adding it to my scarves and shawls. To me it’s like applying a touch of mascara to accent and enhance one’s makeup. Of course, this is my obsession and understandably not everyone likes fringe! I’ve worked hard to curb this compulsion and am now more circumspect about when I add fringe. If there’s a scarf or shawl you like and it does or doesn’t have fringe and you wish it did or didn’t, please contact me as I very well may have more of the same silk to make yours the way you’d like it.

WASHING SILK: I machine wash and dry most silks (except black and very dark silk) prior to sewing to help prevent shrinkage. I do not wash black and very dark silk but dry clean it instead. Dry cleaning is always the safe way to go; however, you can hand wash the silk with a mild detergent or even shampoo. Never wring out the silk; after a thorough rinsing, gently squeeze out excess water, roll it up inside a towel, gently squeeze again to remove more water and then either dry flat or hang to dry. Iron while still slightly damp. Again, because a nasty whitish residue can be left on a black or very dark silk after washing, I recommend dry-cleaning those.

JEWELRY: My jewelry, primarily necklaces and occasionally a set with earrings, varies in style. Some begin with a stunning focal stone around which a statement piece is designed; others are simply mixed strands of lovely beads, some having an asymmetrical design. I have many different stones, pearls, and beads on hand and continually add to the collection. I almost always use sterling silver, gold fill, and vermeil findings and spacers. They are a bit more costly, but the result is worth it.

PAPERWEIGHTS: My paperweights are not the ordinary paperweight. Miniature scenes and small designs hand-crafted by me are captured under glass. A good deal of time and patience goes into making them, and they can get quite intricate. Because of this, I only make a few each year, unless there is a request for a custom piece. There is more information about how my paperweights are made in my profile. Please read it if you are looking to purchase a paperweight.

SUPPLIES: Whenever possible the materials I use I've found right here on Etsy—kimono silk, paperweight blanks, pressed flowers, felt, gemstones, findings, spacer beads, etc. It truly is a wonderful marketplace!

FEEDBACK: Customer feedback is important to small shop owners, and customer service is a crucial for a shop’s success. If you are happy with your purchase please be sure to leave positive feedback letting the Etsy community know of your experience.

If you are unhappy in any way with your item or with any part of the transaction process itself, please contact me prior to leaving negative feedback, as I will want the opportunity to make things right.
