Qiviut Musk Ox Down Responds Well to Fondling!
Musk ox qiviut (kiv-ee-ute), is one of the finest and warmest fibers on earth. The musk ox have adapted their extraordinary undercoat to protect them since prehistoric times. Their down-like under-hair is eight times warmer than wool by weight and finer than cashmere. Each spring the musk ox sheds this two-part coat. Qiviut fiber is processed by separating the down from the long guard hairs. The harshness and remoteness of the Arctic limits the amount of qiviut available. Small amounts are supplied by domesticated herds but limited worldwide supplies make it one of the most sought after and treasured of all natural luxury fibers.
Qiviut has a fine scale pattern that resists felting and pilling. This smooth scale pattern also makes it inherently hypoallergenic. Qiviut fiber is so fine that if you lined up 1,950 of them side by side they would barely cover an inch. Qiviut actually blooms and becomes softer with use, the more you fondle it, the softer it becomes. Qiviut is the ultimate next-to-the-skin luxury fiber. You'll want to use it for scarves, cowls and delicate items worn next to your skin. Unfortunately it does not hold up well to persistent abrasion so choose a qiviut-merino-silk blend yarn for hats, mittens, gloves, socks and garments. You've got to feel it to believe it!
All MOCO (Musk Ox Company) Qiviut Yarns are in stock and ready to ship though future supplies are very limited and difficult to acquire. Qiviut and blended yarns from Canada (100%, 70/20/10 and 45/45/10 blends), Greenland (100%) and Alaska (Arctic Qiviut) are in limited supply and will not be restocked until further notice. Get them before they're gone! I hope to have new Qiviut yarns from Canada next year so please Follow Me to keep updated.
Shipping is via Priority Mail with Tracking for the first item (AirMail International for international orders), all subsequent items ship for no additional charge. Your satisfaction is guaranteed!

5 out of 5 starsSame excellent quality as my last order of this yarn. I ended up doubling one of the skeins for a hat, which was then decorated with a lighter yarn. The qiviut keeps the hat extremely warm, and the fiber is soft.

5 out of 5 starsThis skein of lace-weight 100% qiviut is my shining star. I was a little worried about the texture at first, both when it was in the twist, and even after I had wound it into a ball, but it knit up darn near perfect, and any fibers I felt were not quite up to my (exasperatingly) high standards were easily plucked. Sensory processing disorder will not stop my knitting! I love this yarn!
