I am working on putting these in my entire house, such a classy touch to any room.

The edges were perfectly cut and it is surprisingly lighter than I expected, which makes it really easy to hang. It went in my remodeled bathroom, and now my daughter is begging me to get her one too. Thank you!

The creative design and tile textures really accentuate this monochromatic piece. It adds a modern, artistic touch to the room -- nice thick tiling, clean grout lines and adorable beads!

When your creativity spills over...

I started my Etsy shop because - like most artists - I dream of living off my craft and creativity. It does not at all pay all my bills, but it does afford me to buy materials with a clean conscience and to try out new projects without the worry that they will not be marketable. Also, every sale boosts my confidence and flatters me tremendously. It's amazing for me to think that people out there are excited about something I made and treasures it the way I do. I feel humbled with every single sale.

I NEED to be creative. In the past, I have had trying times (fx. newborns) when I became restless and antsy, and finally I figured out that this happens, if I do not have time to be creative. So, naturally over time my creations have slowly stocked up at home...

A couple of years ago, my husband and I visited several galleries in town and one of the owners asked me if I could make them some mosaic light switch covers. I was not at all excited about that, I preferred making larger wall hangings with a motif, a mood and a story. Pattern is really not my strong suit - still isn't. But, I went home and looked at other light switch covers online. I liked the ones using stained glass and Van Gogh glass (the glass with the creased foil backing), but found them kind of flat, so I added the marbles to mine. After playing around with the design for a while, I found that little sets of 3 worked best and the same with the silver gems, they had to be in little groupings and best in a line. And Voila! I had developed my very own signature style and design, unlike any other I had ever seen.

I still remember looking at the first wall plates I made, not really convinced they were "me". Then I held one on the wall over the bland wall plate. WOW! I was immediately sold, what a difference! I thought these covers were not my style, but I realized I just had not seen any in a style I liked. Due to the very nature of mosaics, they easily become very "busy" on the eye and being Scandinavian I prefer a more serene and calm look. That is probably why most of my light switch covers contain limited colors. Having found my style, I now have them all over my house. My wall plates are so much more than a switch plate now, they are a piece of art that adds sophistication and sparkle to the room, like a piece of jewelry that transforms a plain and neutral outfit.

Mosaics is a fantastic craft. The possibilities are so endless and you can give the same materials to 2 artists and they will produce something very different. Every artist has his/her own natural personal style and we are always in awe of how another artist interpret a scene or feeling in their mosaics. Furthermore, you can mosaic on so many different surfaces or make your "surface" (statue, table etc) from scratch.

I got into mosaics after finding a book at the library. I was there consciously looking for a new hobby. I had been big into photography, but did no longer have access to a dark room (yes, this was in the dark ages...). I kept coming up short on my search for a new hobby. However, I always ended up fanning though this one mosaic book, but it looked way too complicated. Finally, after the 4th or 5th visit, I checked out the book. I had finally realized that this was the only thing that really grabbed me, and then it just happened that a few days later I came across a sale of various mosaic products...

Today, I am dabbling in creating with concrete. Again, I have checked out some books about concrete art from the library and again it looks very intimidating AND HEAVY. I have started off with some innocent leaf castings (you can see me do one on my FB page). But ultimately, I would like to create a love seat and coffee table combo for my back yard. You can stay tuned to my FB page to find out if I chicken out... It's not that concrete seems super complicated, but it's a very heavy and cumbersome mistake to make!

If you are interested in what else I do, besides light switch covers, please visit my FB page. I promise, I do not overpost, I know so well how irritating that can be. I hope to add pictures of new projects as they move along. I know it's always fun to see the creative process.
