Market Square Jewelers was built on a love for the unusually beautiful. Whether we are seeking the most breathtaking Victorian lavalier, the bluest Sri Lankan sapphire, or an eclectic and handcrafted silver bangle, we approach the search like a quest, like a challenge. Regarded by many customers as “The Library of Jewelry”, we attempt to represent not only a variety of stylistic time periods and unusual gemstones, but a variety of price ranges as well.

Market Square Jewelers was founded in 1984 with its first location nestled on Inn Street in Newburyport, Ma. As this store became too small in 1989, we set up shop on the corner of Liberty and State Street in Market Square. Charmed by the boardwalk, the beaches of Plum Island and the history of the town of Newburyport, we knew this was a place we would stay!

In 1989 as we continued to expand, we added our Portsmouth, NH location in the heart of Market Square. This store is known for its elaborate gemstone windows, its friendly and local staff, and its expanse of loyal clientele! The store’s “Bookcase of Jewelry” makes the tight quarters of the store manageable and memorable.

Our next city to call home in 2010 was Dover, NH, just twenty minutes west of Portsmouth. This store is our hub of jewelry manufacturing and repair. The store itself is stunning and not only from the gems beneath the glass; it is like walking into a jewelry store over 100 years old. Its masculine mahogany cabinetry and drawers and more drawers makes this location a treat to come and see!

In 2014, we opened a fourth store in Portland, Maine. We love the vibrant Old Port downtown area we are located in. For a gorgeous selection of the most beautiful antiques we have, set in a stately and beautiful environment, come visit!

Our most recent store is in Cambridge, Massachusetts in historical Harvard Square! We love the bustling energy of the neighborhood, and the rich history around every corner.

Now a two-generation company, we are thankful for our loyal clientele who make coming to work to share and educate about beauty truly a pleasure.

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Returns and exchange details
If there are any issues with a purchase please contact us immediately so we can answer any questions in regards to the piece or so we can expect the return. When returning an item, we ask that you insure the package for its purchased value and to package the jewelry carefully so the item is not damaged in transition. Upon arrival, we will inspect the piece to ensure that it is in its original condition.

Items will not be accepted for return if they have been severely damaged or altered in any way.

After the 10 day return window, we also do offer an exchange for store credit within 30 days of the purchase date.

Any Custom Orders are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Payment
We accept all major credit cards through Etsy's credit card processing system; we also accept Money Orders. We also gladly accept PayPal payments.

LAYAWAY

We offer a four month layaway plan that works with a 25% down payment as the first month's payment, followed by three additional payments, which you make over the following three months, to complete the balance! (So, we ask a piece is paid within a four month span, but you can certainly pay it off sooner as well!)

All layaways, even online layaways, are non-refundable. If the customer decides they do not want the item the down payment(s) become store credit. Please send us a message if you'd like to set up a layaway on any of the pieces in our shop!
Shipping
Packages will be shipped within 1-5 business days after payment is received. All packages are insured for their purchase price. We require a signature ensuring delivery confirmation. Most packages will be sent through USPS. Please contact us if you have any special shipping requests.

The only country we currently do not ship to is Russia, due to Russia's customs regulations.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL DUTIES, TAXES AND FEES ASSOCIATED WITH CUSTOMS. THESE ARE SEPARATE AND NOT INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE. IT IS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY TO INTERACT WITH CUSTOMS, IF NEEDED, TO HAVE YOUR PACKAGE DELIVERED.

Please be aware that many countries charge a 20% - 25% VAT on jewelry imports - you will have to pay this amount AFTER the original sale to your countries' customs agents.

We would like to get your package to you as soon as possible, but please be aware that all Custom's clearance events are different, and we CAN NOT guarantee that your package will reach you by a certain date.

If you are an International customer, we would recommend looking up your countries' specific policies regarding Customs.
Additional policies and FAQs
SIZING: All rings over $1,000.00 USD purchased on this website are sized at no charge to the customer. If a ring needs to go down or up more than one size, please contact us before purchasing it to make sure that this is possible. If a ring is less than $1,000, please contact us for a sizing quote!

ENGRAVING: We offer hand-engraving services for an additional fee. If you're interested in having a piece engraved, please contact us with your engraving request and we can provide a quote! Please allow us extra time to ship your order if you do purchase something and have it engraved - engraving can take 1-2 weeks, depending on the piece.

What does a listing marked "Reserved" mean?

The listings on our site marked 'reserved' or 'reserved - second payment", for example, are items that are no longer available, as they are listings that have been set up for someone who is paying on them via our layaway plan. The notation of "second payment", for example, denotes a single payment for them towards the total cost of the piece, that they are paying off over several months. A piece just marked as "reserved" is on a temporary hold for someone, and may become available again. If you have any questions about an item, feel free to use the contact button, and we can let you know an item's status, or suggest similar things!

It's The Weekend...

We try and take some time on the weekends "off"! Emails will be checked on occasionally, but sometimes we don't make it through all the emails over the weekend. Rest assured someone will be in touch with you about your inquiry or concern as soon as possible on Monday!

We ship almost everywhere in the world! At this time, unfortunately we are not able to send any shipments to Russia.
